Center Console Panel Construction How To

Ok guys here is how to make a panel for the center console

If you want one, let me know, I can get them together for 80$ raw or 100$ finished with texture coat. And I have to know the exact size cut out!, unless you want to do it yourself.

I started here buy taking out the center black plastic piece that has the pockets in it or for some of you had a disc changer from the outer mount.

I cut a piece of wood to fit the lower part and a small piece for the upper part.

hand placed them and stuck them together with bondo from the back side so they would form a very solid joint, on the back i did not care what it looked like as long as it stuck wellhttp://images.cardomain.com/member_images/...801_26_full.jpg

Once that piece dried and was hard I used masking tape, covered the whole stock panel so no crap got on it, placed the two stuck together wood parts on the panel, taped them in place from behind and spread bondo over the whole front to join the wood parts together and filll the cracks around the edges so it looks flush,

Once that dried i sanded the piece down to reflect the final shape that I wanted

Once it had its final shape, I shot the piece with SEM Texture Coat

After Letting that dry 15 min, I shot the panel with my color of choice and WALA you are done!!!

You might want to check your states vehicle equipment laws to see if they are legal. Here's the State of Washingtons law, your state could be similar:

RCW 46.37.480

Television viewers -- Earphones.

(1) No person shall drive any motor vehicle equipped with any television viewer, screen, or other means of visually receiving a television broadcast which is located in the motor vehicle at any point forward of the back of the driver's seat, or which is visible to the driver while operating the motor vehicle. This subsection does not apply to law enforcement vehicles communicating with mobile computer networks.

(2) No person shall operate any motor vehicle on a public highway while wearing any headset or earphones connected to any electronic device capable of receiving a radio broadcast or playing a sound recording for the purpose of transmitting a sound to the human auditory senses and which headset or earphones muffle or exclude other sounds. This subsection does not apply to students and instructors participating in a Washington state motorcycle safety program.

(3) This section does not apply to authorized emergency vehicles, motorcyclists wearing a helmet with built-in headsets or earphones as approved by the Washington state patrol, or motorists using hands-free, wireless communications systems, as approved by the equipment section of the Washington state patrol.

That is interesting because every flip up screen has those capabilities, The screen is illegal if it is showing video in the view of the driver. if is used for navigation it is ok from what I understand.

Looks cool. I was thinking about a 10 inch screen in the same spot for navigation.

I have a 6.5 inch with controls on one side, you can for sure fit that 10 inch, but you might have to replace the whole part there and not just the insert that i did!
