  1. Thanks Ghandi..... I've reassessed my life, attitude, and my neccessity to race on the street...

sorry to have struck a chord that obviously angers you... setting cones on a freeway doesn't sound like a fun or safe job, thats why I wouldn't do it, but I also wouldn't drive 70+ through a cone zone either....

Their are definitely unsafe street racing situations, and others a lot less hazardous, but your ignorance and arrogance is at question when you think I don't have the common sense to distinguish for myself what is harmless fun and dangerous racing. Oh and I guess you learned your lesson after your accident doing the very dumb things in question here, and never take your truck up through first or second gear at WOT on the street.... right? Or is that not considered street racing to you? Save your money and buy more protection for your employees..... might save a little stress... ah shit there goes the ignorance again...

SORRY to hijack the thread... hopefully i didn't piss somebody else off w/ this post.

OK video, but like previously stated, less music and more engine noise woulda been nice and maybe one time lining em all up!!

You cannot purchase any more or better PPE for people than as I already do. We train like there is no tomorrow, and our people are certified instructors. And the risk is still there. My accident was on a deserted road in the country- that I OWNED. I do not drive to put others' lives at risk. It sems nowadays that you have to actually watch one die or be injured from this to understand my point, or, at least, have more common sense and ability to reason than the iron you drive. Your comment of "If they f up and slam into the back of you, sue his ass..." led me to believe your experience and ability to reason were somewhat lacking; sorry if this inference was incorrect, but even you must admit it does not fit with the conditions of this life. Unfortunately, it looks as though you feel groundless statements are the only recourse against reason; next time, bring some facts to the table or risk looking the fool.

  2. It's all in the install; the real-world difference between the Magnaflow & Corsa isn't so much the muffler but also the plumbing. With the Corsa the headpipe and tailpipe are specifically sized & engineered to not hinder flow while preventing the buzzing/resonation which happens at 2000-2500 RPM. The Magnaflow muffler is a good product, but you are at the mercy of your installer to pick the correct size/lengths of piping so as to not have that in-cab drone. A few Magnaflow installs have come out great, and a few have drone so bad you almost cannot talk above it crusing down the freeway. Hearing a couple Magnaflow installs on the SSS my subjective opinion is that they are pretty raspy sounding; the Corsa system sounds more 'polished' or 'professional' and the Magnaflow has a definite outlaw "street/strip" sound. Again that's my own opinion.

And don't count out the Flowmaster; I also thought that their performance had been eclipsed by the new-millenium straight-thru mufflers (Corsa, Magnaflow) but the fastest stock long-block SSS has a very generic-looking pair of FM50s and runs 13.8's @ 95-mph all day long - so they're not apparently a performance hindrence (on that truck anyways). But again it's the install that will dictate how much drone you get.

    Mr. P.

Agreed- none of the mentioned exhausts will pose a restriction for most NA street applications. Well-tuned race exhausts can use Flows or any good muffler given the right conditions, although companys often pay more at the track when using specific products (ala Hooker Headers, etc). I love my Corsa system, but I'm sure there are others that are just as good for other drivers. I did not want drone but did want it nice and raspy at WOT- I definitely got it in the Corsa.

  3. <br />those are some pretty good #'s, i need to get some kind of tune on my Vmax. The hesitation with the fly by wire and the fact that it cuts out at 90mph is driving me crazy. im debating on either a custom tune or something along the lines of a handheld tuner. i have the guy to do the custom tune but with it being under warranty i would like to be able to pull the tune if it needs to go to the dealership.<br />
    <br /><br /><br />

I would stay away from hand held tuners... not worth the money. For the price, you can get a custom PCM tune on a spare core, and keep your stocker for "just in case" situations. I was going to do that, but, then, I'm impatient and didn't want to wait for it to get here! :) The tune and the shift kit were such huge improvements, words do not do justice.

  4. After looking at the pulls again, I think these numbers are off. I asked Scott for the dyno data in a spreadsheet so I can do my own math... the torque, in particular, seems out of proportion. I'll update when I get it... he went to New York for a vacation, so it might be a week or two.

  5. what gear did you make those pulls in?

Baselined in 3rd to rev limit, then pulled 3rd post-tune. After the tires warmed up, we pulled 1-3 in drive from a 10mph start for the rest of the post-tunes to work with engine management at the shifts.

  6. just changing out your muffler isnt really going to affect any tune you do.

You're right in a practical sense, but changes to scavanging and exhaust pressure can make a difference in the overall operation of the motor. I'm less adept at the PCM controlled stuff, but I have spent quite a bit of time with tuning domestics in general. For the most part, I would say that you would not notice a difference in an otherwise stock vehicle, but add some improvements like intake, manifold/TB, cam, and headers and you could have a bottleneck fast in your exhaust system.

  7. Installed the T-Rex grille and lower bumper grille (the two upper bumper grilles are coming next week). Here's a link to my photo album for before and after shots of the front end. Also, if you look you can see the clear parking lights (I put clear lamps in, but will replace with some LED lamps when they come in). I could not believe how much cleaner it looks until I went inside, then went back out and looked again.

These grilles are outstanding. I've installed many different brands, but these guys have been the best by far.

In any case, my next project will be to find a set of Denali headlight housings and install the Philips 4300k HIDs. I'm working with Glenn at mytightride.com on fitting up the "right" tail lights- right now I'm leaning towards

Well, that's enough for Saturday. Time to go watch the Bolts practice in San Diego tomorrow

    Have a great weekend all!

(I just noticed I spelled grille 'grill' in the heading... damn! I must be thinking of the barbeque...)

  8. I have question , Im planing on getting my exhaust dun soon . Im thinking on puting on two flowmaters on and keep the stock tip . But im also planing on getting a tune soon too .What should I do first exhauut or a tune ? I do not know too much about the tunes at all . If I get exhaust dun , will that do anything to the tune side ? Or should I get the tune first ? My other question is , Can they keep my stock tune on with the tow/houl button on ?( I have tow my Boat and it wights 5,000 pounds . ) Or have a tune for towing so I could have 2 tunes . With the tow/houl button off it will the new tune . Can that be dun ??? :dunno: What kind of tunes are out there ? Im lost with the tunes this be my first getting a tune dun . My last qustion is will that F--K up My warrenty at all . I know the exhaust will not F--K it up at all . Im just going round and round :banghead: bout getting a tune . Im sorry if asking so many question . Thanks alot Mark

Put all of your mods on first, then tune to it- if you can, tune on a dyno. I just had mine done last week, and having the dyno there for feedback was extremely helpful. Unless you parallel PCM units or run your power control off of a laptop, you're stuck with modifying the PCM tables. Or, get a tuned PCM (do a search) and pay the core charge to keep your stocker around if you feel it necessary. I haven't at all yet, but I'm sure there are guys here who tow with a tune- they can help you more in that regard (as far as tuning timing and fuel for load conditions). Good luck!

Your guys' air box has a hole in the bottom right? I've never seen a ram air intake, besides Volant, but Im guessing thats for cutsom fabbing a scoop.

I thought it was a debris outlet, but it could be "scoop-ready"...

  10. Guys, I fit some interesting DEPO tails in the truck today. Check out http://www.mytightride.com/gmc-sierra-euro...taillights.html and look for the gray 4x4 about halfway down. Also, we fit some halo projector headlights just to see what they would look like- check out http://www.mytightride.com/gmc-denali-proj...headlights.html I think I'm going to go regular Denali HIDs, but it is an interesting look, too Euro for me.

You can get a glimpse of the clear parking lights in the front end shots of the truck; I do like how it has improved the look of the front end. Tomorrow I install the top and bottom grilles, and hopefully TREX sends the middle two bumper inserts next week.
