  1. If you want a light on the dash to come on, (IF the light is even there) you should probably look at programming the IPC module, since that's the module that manage's the IP Cluster's functions.

What you are trying to do will probably be a 3-part Custom Program. First part would be to modify the IPC to recognize an input coming from the vehicle network (such as Fuel Rail Pressure) and them program the PCM to send the IPC module the Fuel Rail Pressure data. Then, modify the IPC again to switch on/off the "Wait to Start" lamp when the proper conditions are met.

What you're looking to do is somewhat complex if you want it done programatically ... might be easier to hard wire a light to switch on/off once the fuel pressure has reached a target pressure ... JMO.

Thanks... I'm looking into it to see how I could do it and I'm figuring out how to do it with wiring and a relay, but I'll definately check on the IPC...

  2. I remember how it was when I graduated... We took every chair, from every classroom in every building and from the cafeteria, and put them on the roofs of the building. Then we filled almost every room with thousands of dixie cups that were filled with water... Good times... Hope you have a blast man!

  3. I don't know if it can be done with out reverting to the operating system of a truck that already has it enabled, in which case your truck would not run with the programing from a dmax. Also one must be carefull in which accessories to turn on, since common wiring harnesses are shared among different vehicles and similar features will do different things on different vehicles. An example is the shift light on the dash. In a manual trans car it controls the shift light but in an auto, it controls one of the shift solenoids.... so enableing it in an auto vehicle would cause havoc with the trans.

Well that being said... I'm going to have to some serious research...

Thanks for all your replies everyone, I'll let you know what I end up doing with it!

  4. i don't think it is possible. the wait to start light goes out when the glow plugs have warmed up enough.

Duh. But since we don't have glow plugs I want to use it for something else. I'm curious if it's controlled by the PCM, and if it can be reprogrammed to do something else. Diesel's are ready to start when the glow plugs are ready, Gasser's are ready when there's good fuel pressure. And i want that light to say so.

    Anybody?

  5. Ok... quick question for all you tuners out there... I've been looking at my stock gauge cluster and wondering what I could possibly to with all those extra indicators we have that never get lit up... I got the idea to program the diesel's wait-to-start light to come on with the key (and hence the electronic fuel pump), and I want it to shut off when the fuel pump does (like it does when it reaches pressure during KOEO)... I just thought that'd be a cool little thing... I realize that there's most likely not a bulb behind it because it's not used, but is it even wired to our computers? And if so, is this possible?

    Thanks guys, let me know...

  6. No freakin way... I can't belive it turned out so beautifully for you!!! How about some pictures of the pedals? I'm particularly interested in how you mounted the clutch pedal and the resevoir...

If you don't mind me asking, how much did this cost you overall (for all the pieces)? And how natural does it feel in the truck?

  7. Powdercoated stock SS wheels

    Black powdercoated SS wheels 2

I did it a while back for a different look, sold them a while back. The guy i sold them to just sold them for $700 with the tires. Krylon Fusion (the plastic paint) was good for the centercaps. Post pics when you are done!

Those look good... Now I've got that idea in my head... My buddy painted the rims on his WRX and came out okay but they scratch real easily and seem really cheesy up close... Somebody should post a powdercoating-your-rims how-to....

  8. Heh, funny you should mention that... My camaro was set up for dirt-track racing... I got it with a 355 bored to a 377 and a T5... She was fasssssst. The 377 lit on fire twice before it finally died. Took the heads off and discovered that my #7 cylinder's connecting rod had turned almost literally into a question mark...

I have another 355 in it now (C6 drivetrain almost ready to go in it...), and I've driven it around without any real problems...

The one thing I'd watch for is that Dirt motors tend to not be balanced to well... so daily-driving will eat your belts and pulleys, but other than that, it's all good in my book!

  9. Current L92 swaps are producing ballpark around 460 rwhp; the TBTC won't be enough converter for an all-out L92 build but would probably be good with a milder street/strip cam; towing will largely depend on your choice of converter, if you get a premium one with bulletproof TCC then you will be able to tow in OD, else you will have to tow with the converter unlocked and your mileage will plummet as your trans temps skyrocket. If you want to tow over 3500-lbs regularly you need to buy a very good converter.

    Mr. P.

I'm pulling my boat in and out of the water around a dozen times a year... I would consider that to be somewhat often... so what type of converter would suit me for that? And can't the tune be set up control the shift points and when the converter locks and unlocks, so that the trucks behaves totally differently with the tow-haul button on? I'm still looking for daily driveability, but I do want it to be fast (don't we all!?), and I did buy it tow stuff (it is a truck after all)... so what's the best way to get the best of both worlds?

    Thanks for all your input...

  10. you should take the time to do it right.
I know I know, I only pull all nighters with my bracket-beater... I wouldn't mind if that blew up (*cough*again*cough*)...

talk has been that a tbtc isnt going to stall high enough.

Ok, so I'll go higher to make it feel right, but doesn't having a higher stall slaughter my towing capability? How high would I have to go? like, 3200ish?

Also, how would a set-up like this handle 4.56s?

And, least importantly, what are you all expecting for mileage?

  11. Ok, so then,

    Revision:

L92 heads (rated to .600 lift, and with all the fun titanium parts, I'll build them myself from GM parts), a cam with around 580 lift (i'm thinking of going for very slight lump, just something that you know isn't stock and sounds a little grumpy), a TBTC stalled at around 2600-2800, a nice shift kit and 'vette servos... and I'm looking at between 500-550 rwhp?

And I couldn't mail order a tune if I gave up all my specs? That stinks. There really aren't any performance shops around here... Cape Cod is one big retirement community!!

I would want to tune to be a little aggressive, but I still need to tow my boat... I could set it up to be safe to tow with tow/haul on, right? Have a different tune to keep the shifts short and in the mid-range and all that right?

  12. No. I'm trying to decide between the ISS wing with a nice hard tonneau, or going with the speedstur. However, accessability to the bed is an important factor for me as I actually use my SS like a truck (eg hauling engines, boats, and equipment around non-stop)... So I'm looking for some pictures to help me make a decision...

  13. Ok, so, assuming I do all the labor myself (it's a good long weekend project, right?), I need the intake, the cam, the heads (and everything inbetween), I need to modify the water-pump (besides TB spacer there are no other options? the one off the L92 won't bolt up?), and I need to get my hands on a wiring adapter to make the TB work.... and after all that I can be expecting somewhere around 500hp (after a good tune, duh)... correct?

If so, I'm going to start hoarding some parts together... I know I can get most of what I need through GM, but does everyone recommend that, or is the SLP package the way to go? I don't mind building the heads myself, that's not too difficult, but is quality an issue?

Also, is everyone doing this using the stock L92 cam? Or is everyone going for something more viscious? I like my smooth idle and I don't want to screw with that too much, but for some good gains I'll put up with my truck sound a little diesel-ish... any figures on that yet?

  14. okay... So I can do the L92 heads, cam, l92 truck intake (so I don't have to worry about the water pump issue) (doesn't the reduce my high-end power though?)... is anyone trying to do the l76 intake with a throttle body spacer? Is this setup only going to give me another 50hp?

thanks guys, I really do appreciate all the help...

  15. Okay, so, here goes:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understand the L92 is the engine being used in the new Denalis and Cadillacs that produces somewhere around 400hp/400ftlbs. Everyone here seems to like using the L92 heads and cam on the LQ9s, and are having good results with that. My question is, are there any other major differences in the block itself (not little stuff like the oil pump or fuel system)? If not, could someone answer these for me please?:

Would it be fairly easy to swap this motor into an 03 SS?

If not, I could fairly easily swap the heads and cam and have something close to that motor right?

What is this average power gain for that procedure?

Could I still install the Radix later on?

    and Could I use a 90mm TB?

What I'm thinking of doing, is the usual TC upgrade, to around 2600 (i still need to tow my boat or I'd go higher), shift kit, billet/corvette servos, a nice tune, the L92 heads / cam, 4.56 gears, and the radix. Any problems with that setup??

Thanks for the help in advance, I appreciate it...

  16. just tried it. said no record then directed me it intelius site where they want 14.95 to tell me

Eh, I wouldn't waste your money on it...

You should be able to switch your number relatively easily... I would just list it under a less obvious name or get it unlisted...

Let us know how it works out...
