  1. Thats not good I live in CT they do the sniffer test. You do think they will pass emissions? Do you think I should save the stock exhause intake and cats and when I have to go through emissions just throw them back on or do you think I might pass with the high flows on there?

Won't pass. They are not cats. You will need cats. Dynatec offers cats. They may bolt up to your OBXs.

  2. I changed my plugs and wires today, I would say it runs alittle smother. But I guess we will find out if the CEL light flashes again. I havent heard anything rattle yet we will see what happens?

Driver side Cat went on my XL Denali. Had the same symptoms. Bad cat. Their is a way for the shop to pull the 02 sensor after the cat and check the flow. I took the truck to the dealer and they replaced the cat. If you are under 80k and it is the cat the dealer should replace it.

  3. i hate red...so im gonna start off with sayin no to that....makes me think import wen i see all red under the hood...

i like black, and the lsx engine block orange they always picture it in....but ive seen a few done with a silver/grey color also!

i plan on painting the brackets powdercaoting the valve covers, (valley cover???? the plate under the intake...) and painting the block.

let me know ur thoughts always apreciate it!!!

  4. I just answered most of these questions a day or two ago :uhoh:

Billet servos = No. Vette 2nd Servo, Yes. Transgo kit will not work right without the Vette servo; it is designed specifically for use with the Vette servo.

Tansgo kit - use no more than two (2) washers in the 1-2 accumulator cup.

Tell your tranny guy to block the 3rd accumulator passage. If he get squeemish, tell him Mr. P. said DO IT lol, your 2-3 shift will be as hard as the OEM 1-2 shift (not harsh at all, just right).

Servo pin length is more critical than most builders believe, get it as tight as the book allows.

2400 converter is barely any different than stock (waste of money IMO); 2600 is the 'old mans converter' *yawn*. 2800-3000 is a good hot-street converter. DO NOT SKIMP on converter, it's AS IMPORTANT as the trans & motor, get the best you can afford.

ZPak clutches are POS, and if your trans guy suggested this then, no personal disrespect meant to anyone BUT, they don't know what the hell they're doing. You will FRY the ZPak in a year with a bone-stock motor *I guarantee it*. I have TYPED THIS this AT LEAST A DOZEN POSTS NOW, use the Alto Red High Energy master kit, use stock thickness steels, use a 700-R4 setup and get 9 frictions (instead of 7) in the stackup, DO NOT USE THIN STEELS this is why the ZPak fails. Use the Alto Red WIDE band, but this will require a new drum too; if you must use a stock-width band (to save $50 and keep using your stock drum) then use a graphite band (don't use graphite frictions, they're not any more reliable than stock). I prefer the Alto Red Wide band, setup correctly in my trans I had 2nd hitting so hard the earth stopped each time and after 40K-miles of this abuse I had broken/upgraded every hard part in the trans to billet except that Alto Red wide band, it did not have so much as a scratch/stripe on it; a great piece. IF you install the Alto red frictions, you have to drive the transmission gently the first few hundred miles to seat the frictions to the steels, you can tell when this wear-in is done, it'll get really 'grippy' one day.

YES you want a Beast (or 4L70) shell.

Drum oiling setup is CRITICAL in this trans, you need to take fanatical precautions to make sure there is NO cross-oiling, and mod the drum to get the oil to drain ASAP when the clutches are released by the PCM; seasoned tranny guys call this 'defeating the centrifugal clutch apply problem'.

Use a 0.490" boost valve. And for GOD'S SAKE replace the plastic accumulator pistons with aluminum ones, it only costs $13; no naming names here, but there is a shift kit vendor that does not do this (provide aluminum accumulator pistons) and we've already rebuilt 2 of those failed transmissions - don't make the same mistake.

Fill with Dexron-III (non-synthetic) and a bottle of shift modifer, I got mine at OReillys, comes in a silver-grey bottle I think it is called Platinum Lube Guard?

    Mr. P.

Why the Dexron III and not the new synthetic?

  5. I just put some JBA shorts on mine? I got them pretty cheap... $275 r they any good compared to longtubes?? Also i was short on bank so i took it to a muffler shop and they put in duel flowmasters from the cats back. any opinions??

For what it is worth JBA's website shows a dyno sheet from a '04 HD 6.0 with their headers, evol exhaust and wires. It shows a 30hp gain at @4400 rpms.

  6. I bought a Sport cat back exhaust back in '03. It developed a rattle in the muffler. Called Corsa, gave them my info from the original order. Was told they would research it. Later that day I received a call back. Was told no problem. Shipped out the replacement parts that day. Received everything, R & R the exhaust, re packed old items and returned to Corsa via the return shipping labels. Their Customer service was fantastic. I highly reccomend them.

  7. I dunno about you guys running 10W- oil in your trucks; running 5W- in my truck gives 50-psi oil pressure at cold idle and pegs the guage above 3-grand. I run Mobile1 0W-30 in the winter and Mobile1 0W-40 in the summer and highly recommend it, get immediate pressure/flow on startup and still have 50-60 psi "working pressure".

    Mr. P.

I never thought about running a 0W- oil in Texas....I might give it a try next oil change.

  8. Thanks for all of the replies. If it's not too personal, where did everyone get their exhaust and how much did you have to give? I've been looking on the internet and on E-bay and there seems to be a pretty wide swing in the prices. They seem to be going for anywhere from ~$800-1000. OUCH!!!!!

I bought mine (for a Yukon XL Denali) direct from Corsa. I have used Tbyrne for other purchases and they are great.

BTW I used to live in Lewisville.

  9. :banghead: I can't seem to win. Had difficulty with getting part number for Hawk Pads and ordered Performance Friction. Finally decided on Bilstein shocks, found the part number and placed order with Allshocks.com. Received email today form Allshocks stating the Bilsteins are on national Backoder till November. Any suggestions for good replacement shcks other than Bilsteins or where I can get them? 04 SS

I had a set of Edelbrocks and they were great. You may check and see if they make them for your truck.

  10. For those that buy and use premium oil filters, I rifled through the oil filter section at OReilley's last night and found the M1-206 fits LS1's and is 1/2-again taller than the stubby M1-107 called for in the book. I figure hey since they are both the same price may as well get the larger capacity filter, it works too I had 50-psi oil pressure at idle with Mobile-1 5W-30.

    Mr. P. :)

So, Instead of a 6qt oil change add another 1/2 a quart for the added capacity?

Or did you just leave it at 6qts?

  11. What is the interior noise level like at cruising speed with the Sport? at 60-70 mph? I have a Magnaflow DIDO out the back and it drones like heck between 60 and 70 mph. Thinking of asking Santa for one of these for Christmas. I don't mind the noise when getting into it, but I want something that quiets down at cruising speeds.

No drone at all at any speeds. The exhuast sounds great at school zone speeds to well into triple digit speeds.

The best exhaust I have ever owned.

  12. I was plannig on buying Dynatech LT's but funds ran short and I couldn't justify $1400. So I went with BBK shorties. I thought they were long tubes when I ordered them. Had a pic next to part number that showed LT's but there definatley shorties. I put them on and I'm pleased with them, I also cut out my cats.

Did you notice any gain from the BBKs?
