  1. Thanks for the advice. I had it sent to a local Chevrolet dealer, who I did not buy it from, but wished I had. They have replaced a few rear ends for another guy at work who used to do the same thing I did. I did take the tune out as I have a spare computer. Does anyone have any ideas on how to toughen up the rear of these Chevy's? It is the weak point. 3 weeks ago I saw a 2006 GMC with a dealer plate break the pinion shaft off. The Hemi's are not that good when you have a good tune and equal out the horsepower.

  2. I had my wife's 2006 Silverado K1500 at a local fair last night. We pull a drag on a 300 foot dirt track. I got 161 feet down the track and heard a big bang. Broke something in the rear. In 4 wheel drive it still moves but if you try to turn into a driveway it makes alot of noise. Spider gear? I will take off my pulling tires this morning, remove blocking, take out the Zippy tune. Now what do I tell my dealer? I have a 30 foot camper. Maybe I should tell them that I was pulling that? I also have Magnaflow exhaust and K&N FIPK. Should I remove that also? Any info would be greatly appreciated. It was pulling good though until it went to wheel hopping and I as going to get those Hemi's.

  3. Can anyone tell me if there is a difference (Brake caliper) between the 16 inch wheel and the 17 inch aluminum wheel that came stock on my wife's 2006 Silverado k1500? I pull it at the local fairs and I have some Bridgestone Blizzak Winter Force that pull extremely good in the dirt. I bought some 16 inch steel wheels as I already had the 16 inch tires. They don't fit over the brake calipers. It looks like they use a bigger rotor, brake caliper now. Does anyone have first hand knowledge of this? :banghead:

  4. It can't be just the heat. I had a 2003 and in the first year the passenger side came loose and crinkled it up like in the picture above. The driver side came loose also. I live in Maine and if I remember right it happened when it was cold. The dealer fixed it both times, no charge.

  5. I got my Magnaflow catback system from Performance Peddler, an ebay store. I paid $440 which included shipping. The other places wanted $540. They start out at the same price but you can make a counter offer. I offered $400 and they emailed back with the $440 offer. If you cannot find your application call them. The online catalog seems to be to generic. Good luck.

  6. Does anyone know if the wheel nuts for the aluminum wheels also fit the steel wheels? I use my pickup for pulling a dirt track drag, and I found some 16 inch wheels to use on my wife's 2006 Silverado. I have a directional tire that I already had. The tread is to soft to run steady in the summer. :driving:

  7. Ben, I still had the stock 2006 computer to put back in (which I have done). Bryan Herter had told me that the 2005 computer will work on the 2006. I just have to have him reprogram the 2005 to fit it. Thanks for the input. If there had been any major issues all I needed to do was call the dealer. It only has 2400 miles on it.

  8. Well I went through the relearn. Now I have 3 issues.

    1. Reduced engine power

    2. Battery not charging. (Although the guage shows over 14 volts)

    3. Check engine light is on.

Any suggestions? I still have the stock computer which I can put back in. Maybe I need to send it back to Bryan to reprogram. I was just trying to save a few bucks. Also the engines are different. The 2005 is an LQ4. The 2006 (which I want to reprogram) is an 5.3

  9. Thanks for the help guys. I will go out now and try the relearn. Neither of these trucks is an SS. My SS was traded two years ago. Bryan will reprogram one of my computers for $175. The 2005 will fit into the 2006. I'll try the relearn before I send Bryan one of them.

  10. I did a search and came up with this, I hope it helps.  :D

You dont need a PCM tune for your VIN, I never gave Bryan @ pcmforless my VIN so you should be fine as long as the tune is for a SSS with a 6.0 L....

Install PCM per Mister P How To...

    1) Try to start the truck(it should start but die right away)leave the key in the on position for atleast 11 minutes (the security light will remain on for 8-10 of those minutes)....

    2) AFTER the 11 minutes the light should have gone out (if not thats ok), now turn the key to the off position for about 30 seconds. Now try to start the truck again and it should start and die right away, Leave key in the on position.

    3) Once again w/o turning the key to the off position, Let the truck sit for 11 minutes, after 11 minutes then turn the key to the off position for 30 seconds.

    4) Retry again to start truck, it will die again and follow same thing as before for the last time.

After the third time it should start right up. And then you can go test out the new beast

Thanks for the reply. I will try this, but it did not start and stop. It just cranked over without firing. But I will try it anyways.

P.S. Make sure to turn headlights off, radio, subs, amps and any other accessories....Since this process takes 30+ minutes your battery may die if you are blasting your radio while trying to be patient

Mister P seems to know just about eveything.  :D

  11. I have a 2005 1500 HD which I am selling. It has a PCM FOR LESS computer in it. I tried to put it into my wife's 2006 1500. It would not start though. I guess that this is a no go huh? :banghead:

  12. :flag: Yes they come standard with the 403 hp 6.2. The cheapest one at a local dealer is 60,000. He has two others one is 62,000, the other one is 65,000. The two higher priced ones come with 22 inch wheels. The 65,000 one has heated-cooled seats, heated steering wheel and rear camera. They look fantastic.
  13. Does it cost alot? I couldn't do that because I need to drive my truck..

Get ahold of Zippy or Brian at PCMforless. Tell them what you want to do. They will reprogram another computer for you and mail it to you. It takes about ten minutes to install it in your vehicle. Mail your old computer back for credit. Brian gets $250 plus mailing. Way better than a handheld (I've had 3 handhelds). Good luck.

  14. Where did you get the band clamps? I put my Magnaflow's on last week but ahead of the muffler all they give you is the old style muffler clamps.

jboyss, sorry to Hijack the tread :( ........................Honestly, I got them at Nappa for about $10 each. They are called "Quick Seal" I believe. Actually most are made by Walker which can be had from many auto parts shops under they Dynomax Torctite name. They do seal nicely and allow your exhaust to be disconnected easily as they do not crush the pipe like Traditional u-shaped exhaust clamps do. Which was key when I had to drop the tranny on the Camaro to install the 3600 stall converter a month later. :D

You can get them from Summit Racing too.... Link to Summit Clamps

Thanks. They have been used on big trucks for years, 5 inch on up. I did not know that anyone made them that small. Got to get some.

  15. I just got a hypertech the other day and was wondering what shift points I should use? Also should I change the rev limiter and shift firmness?

Have you installed it yet. I have had several and they are okay. If you have not installed it yet you can return it. Then get a custom tune. The Hypertech is to conservative. I also have a Diable which was not any better but at least you can use it as a scanner. If you keep it you need to shift it before you hit he rev limiter.

  16. I went to the chevy dealership and they told me there was a kit you could buy that included the lower valence, fog lights, and all the other needed accessories.  I was wondering if anybody could supply the part number or the part numbers for the pieces need to convert a silverado without fog lights to have them?  :dunno:

Checkout GM Parts Direct. I saw it on there the other day. The whole kit at a pretty good price. Can't remember the part number.
