So in December I let my dad take over payments on my truck and hes been using it. He called me the other day and told me the power steering is going out. This will have been the 3rd power steering pump to have gone bad in this truck. Why the hell is this truck eating power steering pumps? Any ideas?

sell just the filter?

talked to the service manager yesterday morning, made him aware of the situation and explained that that truck is my DD and I have no other transportation right now, and they wont give me a loaner car to drive, and Ive missed work because I had no ride. He went back and tried to figure something out but told me theyre really stumped and cant figure out whats the problem and that theyve replaced numerous parts and none have done the trick and when they run the diagnostics on it it doesnt show a problem but when they drive it it still flashes "reduce engine power" then disengages the throttle like what was happening to me.
then this morning i talked to him again and they still have no clue and had nothing new to tell me and apologized about it. So I contacted the general manager of the dealership and told him and I asked for the area rep's number, which he didnt give me but said he would contact him himself and get him to come out and help. So Ill give them until monday until I start making more calls. Hopefully I can get some sort of closure on this.
-
the for the info danny, I went there this morning and they gave me the run around saying they've fixed some of the problems but not all, and the guy I talked to wasnt sure what all was done so I didnt find much out.
-
Freeman what were the codes thrown any way? do you know the numbers?
P1515
U0107
P2108
had them all read at autozone. all except the u0107 showed a TAC fault, autozone couldnt find anyting for the u0107 and I looked up the u0107 up on here and it was also a TAC problem.
-
the truck is all stock. I didnt sign the repairs yet so Im gonna tell them to put the old one back on, definitely not worth $900.
-
if you ok'd that i feel ba dfor you
the amount of labor involved is honestly less than 30 minutes
and i can get the parts for about 200-300 max
you can find some one selling an old tac that upgraded to the 90mm on pt.net and imo id bet your tb is fine. they are not known for going bad , only if they are improperly ported. , but those to you can find on the net for under 100 bucks.
yea im not really sure, they said they thought it wasnt closing all the way when let off the throttle, whats pissed me off now is he told me theyve replaced the parts but the reduce engine power message followed by disengaging the throttle is still happening. they were suppose to be done with it today but they arent because they dont know whats going on. i let them go ahead and do it because i thought they would have it done by tonight because i needed my truck to get to work tonight
-
ouch! $900!!!
did they warranty it?
I guess not, because I asked him to check if it had a transferable warranty and he said he would.
-
took it in today, they called me and said I need a new TAC module and throttle body, with labor and everything it was about $900
-
my check engine light came on when driving home along with "reduce engine power" message. after checking everything I started it back up and was able to drive it home, with the check engine light still on, stopped by autozone and got the codes read. All 3 codes were for the TAC Module. I found all the info fireman posted about it from a differnt thread, and plan on taking it to the dealership tomorrow. (btw thx fireman) What im wondering if anyone can tell me where this is at so I can check it, and also if anyone has had it replaced how long does it take? My truck is my DD and I gotta work. Im guessing the dealership is the only one that carries this part.

you'll prolly need a co-signer and down payment. Thats how I got mine started.

yea it does sound like a supercharger, but like I said, it has a lope to it, instead of a solid whine like a supercharger. Im gonna see if there is any way to record it so you guys can understand better. Ill prolly start small with stuff like the tension pulley and see if that helps.
-
NO radix by chance? Thats what causes my whine in my engine bay. I would think more likely that your diff might be starting to go.
I wish
my truck currently has 45k and its been doing it since I got it in the beginning of January.
-
forgot to add one thing, it doesn't do it all the time. Like when its cold I dont head it, but after the trucks been running, I do hear it.
-
I have a whining noise about 1500-2000 rpms, you cant hear it above or below other rpms, like a winding noise, its not constant though it has like a lope to it. Its not very loud either. Any ideas as to what it might be?
