  1. I have been doing this over weekends for about 4 weeks. My first obstacle was dropping the gas tank and replacing the stock fuel pump with the Walbro 255 lph. My 2-ton jacks allowed just enough room to get the tank out…if any one does this ensure your tank is almost empty…mine had about 13 gallons in it. Once I dropped the tank getting the guts out of the tank was a bitch. Once finished getting it back in was even worse, I just did not have the room.

I know this is a day late and quite a few dollars short but in the future when you are going to replace the in tank fuel pump on our trucks (and any other truck for that matter) its ton easier to remove the entire bed from the frame. Its been my expeience that removing the 4 bolts that hold the bed to the frame plus removing the grounding strap to the goose neck, and grabbing 3 other buddies to help you lift the bed makes life alot easier. This way your not messing around with draining the tank and trying to jimmy it from the truck. I did this on my 99 short bed and had the fuel pump replaced in about 2 hours time.

Just wanted to help out a little for the future.

  2. If you have the stock torque converter the transmission temps should never get outta hand - the OEM converter is so tight, it's made specifically to not allow much slippage so the wimpy external ATF cooler is plenty. If you are seeing transmission temps creep on you over long term use it can be a sign that the 3-4 clutch pack is slipping on you and a little glazed - the only way to verify this short of teardown is to smell the ATF as well as crack open the transmission filter and examine it for clutch pack debris. Do not over-react, it is also very normal for ATF to run a bit warmer in the summer months (duh!) but my truck stock never had an ATF temp over 135 and that was in the Central Texas heat, if you are regularly seeing ATF temps over 180 especially at night when it's cool outside -and- the shifts are not as crisp as they should be and you have lots of mileage or abuse on the 4L60 then all that evidence could be a sign it is time to have the frictions replaced in it.

    Mr. P.

Thanks Mr. P. I'll have to monitor more closely. I havent driven her in a week so I have no hard evidence of what the actual higher temps were. I only know that I have noticed them creep when I'm in stop and go traffic and the heat creeps into the 80's here in Chicagoland. I can say that I'm going to be towing a trailor and 2 bikes more regularly now that I have my hitch. I want to be sure that I'm not going to be overheating the tranny and possibly paying for one in the future. If I can spend 200$ now to save me 2500$ later then I'm all for it.

Since I'm going to be towing then would you suggest a larger cooler? Also since I live in/near Chicago (and it's cold winter's) should i purchase a cooler w/a bypass? Forgive me for beating you up but what exactly does the bypass do?

  3. Since i was home today before the big weekend, I finally got around to wiring up the fogs I installed a couple months ago. Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to cut the ducts in anyway to install these, in fact, i think it's kinda "sleeper" if you don't cut them, jmho. All i need to do now, is get an hid kit for the highs and fogs, then I'm sure i'll get a ticket for blinding somebody :jester:HPIM1429.jpgHPIM1405-1.jpgHPIM1428.jpg

can you post a pic of how you mounted them without cutting the ducts?

  4. I don't mean to hijack this post but its gotten me thinking.

I've noticed my tranny temps rise recently as well with no load. I'm running bone stock. I havent paid attention to exactly how high the temps have gotten in stop and go traffic but I know it hasnt been above 200. Is it a good idea to do a larger trans cooler even on stock trucks? It's not my DD but I want to be sure I'm doing the right thing by my truck.

  5. I think one or two of us might be thinking your talking about the trailer brake controller harness that plugs in under the dash inside. I think your talking about the actual trailer light harness which plugs into the back of your truck (next to the hitch). If you purchased a GM hitch kit, I'm really surprised it wasn't in the box!!

I purchased the hitch from another member of this site not from GM. Hence no harness. I know that I'll need to purchase the harness for the trailer lights. It's my understanding though that this trailer light harness will plug into a module on the main wiring harness for the truck. Is that correct or am I way off base here?

  6. the wire harness is a round plug thats the one it should all rady be hooked up all you need is the rear plug to mount on the hitch

That's the thing I dont see any of the previous wiring for the hitch. R u speaking of a round plug on the module near the spare tire?

  7. I have an '05 SSS and I've recently added an OEM hitch. I initially thought my truck came with the tow package. According to my VIN it did not. Here's where my confusion lies. I do have the tow button on my gear selector and it does function but I do not have the wiring for the hitch. I am looking to add the oem wiring harness for the hitch but I am not sure where it connects. I know there is a module near the spare tire. Does anyone know if/where the OEM wiring loom connects to this module for the hitch?

  8. I just wanted to add that I know how you feel too bro. I have had many similar scenarios when I was 16/17 as well. I had a 78' malibu I was restoring and went for a little test cruise to (I'll be honest) show off. I was driving down the main strip with no hood (which was totally legal at the time in my state). You couldn't help but notice all the chrome and a high rise intake and the holley blairing from the engine compartment. Needless to say it didnt take long for a cop to pull me over and swear I was doing 150mph everywhere I went. I was cordial and complied with everything he asked and fortunately he let me go (even though he was a d@#k the whole time). I asked him nicely to show me the radar (this was before camera's in police vehicles in my area) and he couldn't. I got let off easy. It sucks that you didn't. Follow Mr P's advice and you should be ok. Be as professional and respectful as you can in court and things should turn out ok for you.

  9. So.. monday night around 9 pm I was driving down main street getting ready to go home. I came to the light and im just sitting there waiting for it to turn green when i see lights in my rear view.... when the light turns green i proceed to pull over because the sherrif was yelling through his intercom thing to PULL OVER PULL OVER RIGHT NOW!!!! :fume: so i pull into a parking lot get my license and registration and wait for the cop to come. When he gets there he tells me to give him my license so i do he snatches it out of my hand and asks me how old i was so i tell him 17... he busts out into laughter and in a BIG redneck accent he says YOUR GOING TO JAIL  ... i get out of my truck as he says to do and stand by my tail gait he makes me put my hands behind my back and pushes me up against my truck for no reason...the cop puts me in his car and asks if i know why im under arrest so i tell him no i dont and once again in his big stupid accent he says STREET RACING  WTF my mind was blown because i had no idea what the heck he was talking about.... he claims that he saw me hauling ass down main street with another truck reving our engines and what not. so im pissed calling him a dumb ass and such and i ask how fast was i going.. and he actually tells me well i dont have to clock you i just know you were street racing so it doesnt matter then i also ask him did you get me on camera and he says no! wtf?????? but not only did i get thrown in jail they impounded my baby too :( and also a very nice 1st geneation ford lightning..... i was just sooo pissed and absolutely confused as to how i could be held under arrest without getting my rights read to me and no proof of what i was being accused of... but i ended up getting thrown in the drunk tank for 6 hours before i finally get my phone call which was around 2 am. and i spent the night in jail for no reason!! not to mention i had to pay my bail and pay to get my truck out!! :( haha....

sorry about the long and pointless read i thought i would just share my ridiculous story with the site :D haha feel free to send me your comments or anything!!

First things first...NEVER call an officer a dumbass and NEVER argue with them....second thing....GET A LAWYER! If he didn't read you your rights then he's wrong and it will probably get thrown out of court. If the cop shows to court and cannot prove it was you either via a ticket for speeding/racing or through video then he's wrong again. Get a lawyer to fight it definately. Of course this is all assuming you indeed werent racing at anytime during the night/week.

If you were street racing...well to each there own. Next time keep it on the track if you were.

  10. Here's the links to both trucks if anyone is interested in helping this young man out.

    http://www.jerryhaggertychevrolet.com/vehi...CEC19N561135196 red '06

If you ask me (which ur not...directly) its a bad idea to buy any used vehicle with a pre-existing supercharger. Then again that's just me. You never know who owned it before you and how they treated it. Also who knows what AHole at the stealership is romping around town in it either.

The red '06 seems to be a clean truck. I'd run a check on the VIN of both trucks and see what comes up. Take this all with a grain of salt my friend. Good luck with your purchase. I hope you find the truck of your dreams.

edit: I'd have to remove a bunch of the crap that's on that '06...those steps are ugly, and the wood grain has to go.
