  1. Wow man, that sounds incredible...great job - I know you've been working on this a long time. Glad to see you're getting everything ironed out just in time for summer!

No shit, I hope so too but it's not looking very promising right now - no one seems to know exactly what the problem is. What makes it even worse is, the launch is so freekin awesome with those new gears, I'm dying to drive the shit out of it and can't!

Zippy says the tune is right on, Chuck is out of the office till Tuesday and says not to drive it wot if the pressure drops during the shift because it will burn up the clutches...again! I'm so pissed off and frustrated...about ready to order a Rossler but they're wait time is like 3 months! Thanks Johnny!
  4. Thanks for that, great info. ...I never cleared the TAP cells when I swapped from the 60 to the 80 last year either. I'll be sure and do this before I drive it anymore to see if that's the culprit. Thanks again Matt.
  5. I had the trans installed, I didn't do it myself. Is this something that's done with the tune?
  6. I need to reach out to you guys to see if anyone else has ever experienced a pressure drop between the 1-2 shift on their 4L80e and found a solution. The first 80e I had built did the exact same thing until the 1-2 clutches cooked and now the new one I just put in last weekend is doing the same thing...HELP!!! Yesterday I did a pressure test while driving and found 200psi @ part throttle with nice and firm shift + all other gears shift very nice. Only at wot does the pressure drop down to 180 during the 1-2 and goes back up to 200 for the 2-3 and 3-4

Also, looks like I won't make the track this weekend unless I can get this figured out REAL quick...Just did a pressure test on the new 4L80 yesterday while driving because the 1 - 2 shift felt extremely soft under boost but under part throttle (less than half throttle) shifts firm. Anything say over half throttle, the 1-2 shift firmness ONLY decreases...the more throttle the less firm it feels but other gears 2-3 and 3-4 shift firm at wot! The pressure test while driving revealed 200psi under part throttle and only 180psi @ wot for the 1-2. Chuck from FLT is still scratching his head saying it tested "perfect" on his dyno. This is a pre 1997 4l80e btw, BUT his other 4L80 I sent back to him did the exact same thing until the 1-2 clutches finally cooked. I didn't want to say anything about his first trans cooking in under 4k miles and 7-8 months of very limited driving because Chuck stood behind the trans and built me this new one for only the cost of the new Coan 6 pinion low planets, upgraded billet shaft and shipping back & fourth of course, but now I don't know what else to do but reach out to you guys here to see if anyone else has had this same experience and found a solution. Chuck said he couldn't find anything wrong with the cooked 80e I sent back to him, I just hope the valve body from the old one wasn't re-used in this new one thinking it was ok when there was a possible failure he didn't know about...that's the only thing I can think of, but I'm FAR from an authority on transmissions. Any help with this is GREATLY appreciated.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. Going to try some things first. The dude from Magnuson said I may have an air pocket or something. Tomorrow I was going to reverse the connections on the SC and on the heat exchanger too. Dude, I ordered that Ice Box in October last year and didn't get it until January ...no way I'd sell it now!

lol, sorry, I should have said plumbing setup only. Moving the Varimax to where the Bosch used to mount + re-using the little round reservoir that mounts to the battery tray on the drivers' side, but keeping the cooler. Here's the really strange part, I just got home from a cruise (58 degrees ambient with IAT's 91) ...popped the lid off my ice box and the coolant is ice cold - felt colder than the air temp actually. WTF does kcocofodla stand for?

    The Storm

Thanks, IAT's are around 25 degs. above ambient cruising down the highway. The original routing and tiny cooler ran around 10 degrees above ambient. I suspected this setup wouldn't be as efficient as the way Magnuson designed it. This setup will apparently only lower IAT's when ice is added to the tank for short track runs. Magnuson designed it to go from SC, to small tank, to pump, to cooler back to SC. Due to the very limited space to mount the pump near the ice box which is now on the other side of the truck, the coolant travels much farther and basically just sits in the ice box when no ice is added. Looks like I'll probably be going back to the original design and eliminating the ice box completely since it's more of a DD than a track truck

Thanks Alan. Yeah it's the blue gates racing belt, but oddly enough, they don't make it in an 8 rib for the main belt

Out of SC, to cooler, to Ice Box, to pump, to SC. Here's today's progress - Got everything functioning good, pump's working great but did a test run and IAT's are actually higher than normal!! My Brother questioned which inlet on the cooler to plug into from the SC. My vote was at the bottom because the temp sensor is right there next to it but he said top because a normal radiator flows from top to bottom. We ended up plumbing it from the SC to the top of the cooler. Does anyone know which is correct? In-line shut off valve to drain the tank Drains out here - right under the passengers' side mirror Mounted the pump here, behind the skid plate Plumbing close up Here's a vid... http://vid1359.photobucket.com/albums/q791/randyc/20150316_172122.mp4
  13. Truck sound awesome bro...not too shabby spanking those poor dudes either! Nice work

So here's today's progress. Had to pull the bumper to get that big boy shoe-horned in there but it ended up fitting really nice after I hacked off the top mounting bracket. Also got the pump mounted and just need to finish up the wiring and plumbing tomorrow - I'm playing hooky from work to finish up and make vids! Here's my Brother peeling the double sided spongy tape we put between the angle and cooler Damn that makes the Maggie cooler look small! Had to hack off the factory mounting bracket

Thanks Jason, no kidding! You can't take it with you, so might as well spend it on something you enjoy , and I'm going to enjoy the hell out of this baby Oh for sure. I'll be posting up a vid or two probably tomorrow after I finish up the Heat Exchanger and plumbing. Then Saturday will be time to see what's up at the track More pics and vids coming REAL soon Johnny! Yeah, I'm sure I'll be doing a little more to it here and there...possibly heads later this summer - we'll see lol, you nailed it...it's never ending! I'll probably, hopefully, maybe be happy with these mods at least for a little while!

lol, I'm jealous of your motor, jackshaft and whole setup, so we're even pal! Yours will be one of my favs. IF you ever get it running

Thank you, they look much better/noticeable since the black wore off of the rotors. I'll probably be taking some pics this weekend or early next week once I get the Heat Exchanger installed, tune adjusted and cleaned up of course - pretty dusty from sitting around in the shop. Funny you mention the gas mileage - she sucked down one of those 5 gal. containers just on the 25 mile ride home...highway too! I'd say I'm getting around 5 mpg right now . Zippy tells me it'll get a little better once the tune gets dialed in.

Thanks John! As much as I would like to take credit for installing them, the guy who did my cam installed everything: Fuel system, brakes, new water pump (had a small leak so he replaced it), pulled the old trans, installed the new one, relocated my 40k into the bumper grille and ran all new lines for it. All for 1200 bones. However, I'm installing the LPE heat exchanger, pump and running all new plumbing tomorrow - more pics of that coming soon! Just got her home a little while ago and emailed a file to Zippy already. She runs absolutely awesome, but man does that baby drink some fuel...talk about a gulper; and I thought my x wife was bad Rears

Thanks Sanders, you and I think alike! Well he'll yeah. It's not enclosed though - it's a 22' hydraulic tilt bed. Headed down south of me a little over 2 hrs. To some shithole track in the middle of a corn field called MO-KAN drag way since Heartland Park is closed

Thanks brah! I've already reserved a trailer for next Saturday the 21st! Yeah, I'm going to keep the 3.3" on there for the first run or two just to see what kind of 60 and overall improvement I have with the trans gear change, larger exchanger and fuel system. Then I'll slap on the 3.0" I've had sitting on my bench for the last 8 months or so to see the difference that makes. I've been thinking about snatching up a 2.8" to bring along for the ride too. If I get close to 10 seconds with the 3.0" once we get her dialed in good, you bet yer ass I'm throwing on the 2.8", lol.

No Kidding...I'm done!! Thanks Johnny, I appreciate that buddy. Went to drop off the Wilwoods this morning and got some pics of the Flex Fuel Sensor and how we ran the new fuel lines underneath. Also got a few of the trans cooler mounted in the bumper vent Still need to give it a flush and hook up the 90's
