  1. I believe you will be just fine with a rebuild, just make sure whomever you choose to handle the job has new adjuster lock nuts on hand for the differential carrier bearing adjuster nuts. One of the most common reasons for failure in the 8.25" differentials is the lock tabs break off, allowing the adjuster nuts to back off. When most people rebuild the diff, if the parts are in what appears to be in good shape, they will reuse them. This is a dangerous tactic in this area, as each time the lock tab is bent back and forth it gets weaker and is more likely to fail.

    Thanks Bear,

I'm going to take it to another dealer and have them do the work. I'll be sure to tell them to replace the adjuster nuts, and I want my old adjuster nuts back. They are a good dealer, I've bought several trucks from them. Thanks for the heads up on the adjusters.

  2. Everything breaks, whether it was lack of maintenance, an individual defect, or too much horsepower. In your case, it wasn't too much horsepower. I know plenty of AWD SS owners running 600+ crank horsepower on stock front differentials and never a problem. I'm running a magnacharger, and this has been my daily driver for the past year, and I haven't had one problem with my front differential. Mind you I beat the snot out of it when necessary :jester: .

Don't be discouraged. I'm going to tell you right now unless you have way too much money laying around you don't know what to do with you could probably put on whatever modifications you want to that and never break it.

Thanks for your advice and help

  3. One thing about the units from Jasper, when you recieve it, you may be shocked to find you only recieved the actual differential. You will still need to swap on your axles and passenger side axle tube. If this doesn't apeal to you, especially for the price, you may wan't to further investigate having your current unit rebuilt.

    Thanks Bear

I think your right on the rebuild, Jasper has the diff for $1900 I'll get it rebuilt. My biggest worry is am I going to have to rebuild the diff every ? so many miles. I love the truck, a blast to drive in the rain. I had plans to add some bolt on's for more horse power, but it seems that the diff can't even hald the 345 it has. Kinda disappointing.

  4. This is going to be one of the few time I say don't listen to the dealer. Whomever told you that must not been aware of the fact that AWD was dropped part of the way thru '05 in the SS and the replacement differentials have since been dropped from GM.

Besides that, all the 8.25" front diff's thru the '07 Classic Denali's never changed.

Your only left with a few options; 1) you can have your existing diff rebuilt, 2) you can purchase a rebuilt unit from Jasper, 3) you may be able to locate a good used unit from an SS or an SD as they will both have 4.10's stock. The diff's from a C3, Yukon Denali or an Escalade will fit, but they would have came with 3.73's and you would have to pay to have the gears changed, in which case you might as well have your existing diff rebuilt unless it's damaged, 4) you could locate a good used diff from a 4WD with 4.10's and swap your passenger side axle and axle tube onto the replacement unit and be just fine.

Thanks, is Jasper the full name of the company that has the rebuilt diff's?

  5. Does anyone know if there is a upgrade I can get to my front differential? I just found out that I need to replace the front diff. I only have 105K on my truck, 03 SS? I talked to the dealer, they said that in 07 they started putting in a stronger diff and larger pan to hold more fluid. I need to have it replaced and looking for another option other than the stock replacement.

    Thanks CDSS

I have an 03 SS, XM radio and disc changer gone bad, I don't know alot about what would work in replacing it. If your radio head and disc changer will work let me know. I thought my radio and disc changer were all one unit. Thanks
