  1. Hey bill. I haven't done this swap, being an SS, but I'm having the same exact issue with my hood bowing out down above the headlights after installing an aftermarket hood. It's really noticeable on the passenger side. Drive me crazy!! I saw you PMd Zach about a possible remedy. Any chance it may fix my fitment issue?

    hey mid12s,

Its hard to say being aftermarket it might just be in the stamping of the metal. A lot of times at work with aftermarket hoods (also some OE stuff) we would have to put a piece of 2x4 on the rad. support by the latch and have two people one on each side push down to "bow" it back into the correct shape. sorry I couldn't be more help.

    Bill.

  2. Do you by chance happen to have all the part numbers needed for the conversion? I've got a 99 regular cab that needs a new front end, and I really want to make it look like an SS. By the way, love your truck! It looks amazing!

    Thanks in advance!

I have some of the part numbers but not all of them. I must be missing a page or two also the copies that i have are a little hard to read I hope I wrote them down correctly:

    fender- Z14C88944419 list $271.21

    fender- LMA88944420 list $274.05

    support- 208C15798722 list $25.34

    support- 212E15798921 list $20.21

    fascia- 12335659 list $486.37

    grille- 12335765 list $119.41

    duct- 12335767 list $195.29

    duct- 12335766 list $193.81

    grille- 19168630 list $552.32

    hood- 88944302 list $485.95

The chrome bumper and headlights aren't listed because I purchased them off craigslist. there is also about $400 worth of brackets and the frame horn ends that I haven't listed. Hope this helps if you need anything let me know.

  3. A friend of mine made a few of those holsters out of kydex for us. though they are comfortable, the one thing that had me worried about it was the way you had to draw it. in order to get the firearm out completely it was like a jerking motion away from your body. you might not always have the luxury of fully extending the firearm, you may have to fire from retention which was really difficult to remove from the holster at that point. just a little thought for you guys. :flag:

  4. I have a question about the bumper mount brackets you used. You said you bolted them on and I done this on a truck a while back and had to weld them on. The brackets I used was from a wrecked truck and had to be cut off. Does the bumper brackets have a way to bolt them to the frame?

Yes. The new OEM frame horn ends bolt-on. It came with the bolts and a template. The brackets have nuts welded in them. After I bolted them on I shot some undercoat on it just to seal it.

If I can answer any more questions please let me know.

  5. Hey I've done this exact conversion to my truck and I am having some hood fitment issues. Ive got it lined up to where it doesn't rub, it latches fine in the front center, but it seems to bow out towards each end above the headlights. Check out my pics). Any remedies for this? I really need some help here It's been over a year and I am at a loss as to what else to try. 1zhelp.gif

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

  6. Looks great! This is a great thread, because people always ask how to convert a 99-02 front end to the 03-05 SS front end! Anyways looks great, I've painted a few truck myself and wow is it a lot of work. pepsicheer.gif

Next get a drop on it....

Haha. Yeah I spent a lot of time online trying to find out what all was involved to do so. I eventually ended up asking people on here but never did find a detailed "how-to". The paint was extremely hard! was like sanding concrete with notebook paper! I was actually thinking about just dropping the rear to level it out.

  7. Dam man, that is one awesome conversion. Put that bowtie on and paint those mirror caps and you'll be good to go!

Yeah i wanted to paint the entire mirrors, handles, and chrome rear bumper but it was over $100 for a quart of etch primer(for the chrome). Also have always been told never paint textured parts. Wish i did do them now since I went that far with it.

  8. First off I just wanted to thank all of you for your knowledge. Without you I would have never been able to do this.

This is for anyone that is curious on what it takes to convert a 2001 silverado into a 2004 silverado ss.

    (Basic) Parts list: ALL OEM

    *Left and Right fenders

    *Hood

    *Grill

    *Grill emblem

    *Left and Right headlights

    *Left and Right running lights

    *Left and Right headlight buckets

    *Front chrome bumper

    *Front SS bumper cover

    *Center bumper grill

    *Left and Right bumper ducts

*Left and Right frame horn ends

*And A TON of bumper brackets

    Parts you can reuse:

    *Hood hinges

    *Left and Right fender liners

    *Rad. support

    *Hood latch

The reason I done the conversion was that I hit a deer coming home one night and the insurance company gave me a little over $2,500 for the damage. The parts ran me just over $2,000(discounted) and was able to re-paint the entire truck for $400 (cost of materials) so I still came out ahead.

I first started by breaking it all down:

    DSC02312.jpg?t=1290467320

Once I found out all the parts that I needed I went ahead and ordered them (the first small batch)

    Image09102010124951.jpg?t=1290467485

While I was trimming in the parts I went ahead and changed out my condenser and started on the minor body work along with removing my body side moldings and fender flares:

    Image09132010191021.jpg?t=1290467916

Once my parts were dry I went ahead and swapped over the fenders and hood:

    DSC02360.jpg?t=1290468166

    DSC02362.jpg?t=1290468299

Then I started to work on the frame horn ends. I cut the old ones off with a torch then ground them down smooth and bolted the new ones on:

    Image10012010173302.jpg?t=1290471846

After I got everything lined up I went and took it all back apart and got it ready for paint:

    Image09202010171201.jpg?t=1290471953

    Image09282010173054.jpg?t=1290472076

    Image09292010100030.jpg?t=1290472138

Once it was all painted all it needed was to be wet sanded, buffed, and reassembled:

    Image09292010122821.jpg?t=1290472568

And the final product! (minus the grill emblem. It showed up after i painted the truck so I have not sprayed it yet)

I hope this helps anyone that had any questions on how it was done. If you have any questions please let me know.

    Bill.

  9. I believe everything you said is correct and yes the hood hinges will be different as well as the fender liners, not sure about the core support. Also someone on here said that the front of the frame rails is different so you would have to weld on the correct brackets from a 2003+. Hope that helps.

Yeah i thought that the frame horns would be different. I'm going to try and get a price list together tomorrow. I will add the liners and hinges to it, thanks.

    Bill

  10. I'm sure you guys get this a lot. I tried to do a search but really didn't come up with anything. I just hit a deer last week with my 2001 silverado and was thinking about putting on a 2004 SS front end on it. I have a few questions about some of the parts. I know I will need a new hood, LT&RT fenders, grill, metal bumper, SS bumper cover, SS intake ducts, ALL the bumper brackets, headlights, headlight buckets, and marker lights. What i'm not sure about is the fender liners, hood hinges, and rad. support. If i'm missing anything please let me know and thanks for all your help.

    Bill
