Very nice, that's getting it done. If I get ambitious I'll be challenging that time soon with my wife's Tahoe. Your setup looks very good btw, love the black with the SSS wheels.
Thanks Zippy, I need to see your Tahoe run!! When you going to bring it up so we can race em lol..
I honestly want to make my Tahoe the fastest out there.. I'm looking to do a 408/TVS1900 setup next spring/summer and then buy the TVS2300 after to power that big 408 stroker LQ9
Thanks again I was trying to clone that Tahoe SS concept .. Most of the parts were from a SSS

you are gonna need a 6.0 to make it to 408 with any cylinder walll left...Zippy's 408 build is pretty awesome, budget friendly and some nice parts to boot.
I could not get guys together here in MI, but I bet you(Zippy) could!!
He's got a 408 in his Hoe?
Yeah it would be great to get all of them here lol

I'd like to meet up with you when I'm in Michigan and run Tahoe's. I'll be interested in seeing how my Hoe does against a boosted one. I won't have time to port the heads and I won't have the cam in there yet that I want, but it should still run well. You did a nice job with yours, it looks much nicer than mine.
Im down lol and thanks.... im still not done with it yet looking to make it a 408 if i can with my 5.3
Whats done to your HOE? Any pics or vids?

you have a 4wd so using that when racing is a no brainer. if i were you id get a nice set of street tires. you dont need drag radials like the 2wd guys. so you can get a tire that will last much longer and have traction . just use 4wd. you may get a tenth or two out of 2wd but if you want to run 2wd just get a set of good drag radials with some cheap rims to swap to at the track .
Yeah thats what i race on is 4wd so should i stick to the tire size i have now or go with a lil wider one? I really like the toyo proxes s/ t would those be good to get?
i guess if i really wanted to launch on 2wd ill just get a new set of rims and tires for the rear lol
-
yeah but finding a 20's radial with any diamter sucks for me at least.
i wish i could find a radial over 30'' as i have to regear to 3.73 to keep in 3rd with the 305/45/18 mt et radials i run
the nitto 555r would be the only drag radial id consider for DD. just becasue i know of some who get near 15k on a set. the mt dont last long at all on the street.
Shit man this sucks i dont know what tire to get and what size..
I have a heavy ass suv so would it really matter if i got a street tire or drag radial?
I hook on 4wd with a lil slip with a stall at 2500-3100rpms and 2wd i dont hook at all if i launch with a stall..... so im stuck lol i need help!!!!
-
let us know what you find , my 305/40/22 toyo's are done .
i have heard mixed reviews on the kdw as for traction on the street/strip . this is the tire id expect to hook best being as soft as they are. this is most likely the route ill go since they are so cool and soft . they mileage you get out of them sucks but when you dont drive more than 1k a year its ok.
also curious as how the nitto 420's do. they look awesome and like they might hook . price is much better as well as life expectancy.
I have no idea what tire to get lol
i heard that the nitto NT05R's hook real good but the only size in 20's they have are 315/35/20 and there drag radials
i was also looking at the NT05 street tires which i would get 4 of those but dont know what size and if they last. And ppl say these also hook
the sizes they have in the 20's for the NT05"s are..
255/35/20
255/45/20
275/35/20
275/40/20
315/35/20
which would be a good size for 4?
-
the tires you have now. If they are putting you close to your peak hp crossing the line then you don't need to change diameter, just tire brand.
how do i find that out?
-
i wouldnt go with a 305/50-20 thats more of an off road size...if you have time give me a call. My info is at the bottom. Ill be more than happy to help you out.
What size and type of tires should i get for my 20's? i need 4 and im looking for tires to hook on 4wd and 2wd on the street/ track and daily driving.
-
that is a pretty tall tire, what is your rpm crossing the 1320, and then where is your peak hp. You want a tire that will keep you very close to your peak hp as you cross the line, for me in third gear.
which tire r u talking about ? the toyos or the ones i have on it now
-
I have 275 55 20 goodyear ls2's now and they dont hook for shit and im gonna be needing 4 new tires any idea on what tires r good?
i was thinking on getting 305 50 20 toyo's a wider tire to hook on 4wd and 2wd for drag racing/ street driving..
-
I was woundering would smaller rims and tires help get a faster 1/4??
-
sweet. was that blue truck slow5.0?
i have no idea if it was lol

Just took some new vids at the track with the 4.10s
Ran some good times
Best run was in 4wd 12.84@103
2nd best was in 4wd 12.9@102
The rest of times that i ran in 4wd were 13.0's
and my only 2wd run was 13.1 (no grip)
First 4 vids are the new ones
-
Got everything fixed and retuned.. Havent really punched it on 2wd, it seems faster but on 4wd its a effin beast! I was testing it out and just punched it at a deadstop and all 4 wheels burned out then it grips after but damn lol
-
Glad you got that squared-away! Air/fuel ratio (wideband) will not change due to change in gearing, but there could be areas in your spark table which could gain some optimizing due to new gearing. But no you don't need to retune if the truck was running fine before the gear swap, you are not going to see any increased risk of going lean or detonation by going to a lower gear ratio. My 2-cents.
Mr. P.
well i had a big problem with my jet chip programmer, cause as soon as i did the retune which all i did was change the tire size and gear ratio and my truck started driving really bad and the idle was so bad it stalled on me a few times. On my info screen on my speedo it was saying engine reduced power , so i took the jet chip program off and dropped it off at a shop to get retuned and fixed
-
ok so i just ran my jet chip programmer 4 on my pcm and changed the tire size and the gear ratio but nothing else. My truck seems to drive fine now so idk if i should get it retuned lol
-
Are you saying that when you let off the throttle in WOT 2nd gear it immediately downshifts back into 1st gear? If so then yes the issue is that the tune (transmission shift speeds) are off.
You must do a PCM adjustment after installing new gears, just like you need a new re-tune after installing smaller diameter tires - same exact deal. The speedometer will be off, the shift points will be off, the MPH fuel cutoff (limiter) will be off... PLUS to be honest the actual engine calibration could use a re-visit as well, the AFR will not change but the ignition spark timing tables could probably be optimized a tad for the new gearing = better launches and part-throttle driving.
Mr. P.
No thats not what i mean it goes to 4th gear at 45-50 and it down shifts weird.. but I took it to a new tuner and he was saying the converter is locking up thats why its acting weird, so i gotta get it retuned and the stall is too high for my setup but he can work with it... Hes been doing this for over 20years so i trust him
-
Yes you need to adjust your tune for the new rear ratio......
so thats why its doing that ?
-
no thats not normal!!! who installed your gears??
My mechanic
-
i got the 4.10s installed, it seems to drive fine and it chirps 2nd gear but when i let off the gas at about 50mph and it feels like something is gonna break in the trans or rear end, like it down shifts really bad an the whole truck shakes... is this cause it hasnt been tuned for the new gears?
-
Who sold you the parts? That is very cheap for all of the parts including the torque convertor. I had more than that in just parts with out my TC, and that was before the billet input shaft became available. And I used all of the websites that offer the best prices. What are all the parts that you bought.
My dad owns a mechanic shop so i get most of the parts cost price
