  1. Could maybe the blue and the green pins be wrong on the harness? I have them in the right location and the way there were labeled. Weird thing is though.........the oem low speed wire green pin 42 and the high speed wire is blue pin 33 but the harness is the other way around?

  2. I'm going crazy for the last 3 weeks! I've had a Wheatley tune in my 04 yukon denali for years now with 05 efans and Black Bear dual pin harness and flawless! About 3 wks ago all the sudden my fans have been kicking on high speed all the time....... today I hooked a tech 2 up and saw that the computer is turning both fans on high at 204 degrees? It has never ever done this before? I got new relays and a new harness from Justin thinking it was that but I guess not? Awesome service from Justin by the way! I'm just lost now and can't figure this out? What should the table be set at and could the tune just go out of wack and change like that? Please help! Thank you!

  3. Without looking at the tune file there is no way of telling what is truly going on. I would guess it is the harness, but again that is just that... a guess. Where are the relays mounted?

The relays are under the hood connected to the fan harness. I have a buddy that can view what the pcm is calling for when the fans go on, that would let me know right away.

  4. Ok, can someone answer some questions for me? I have an 03 silverado 1500 hd. It has the LQ4 and I put 05 oem e-fans in it about 3 months ago. I have a Wheatley tune and the fans are programmed in now like factory. I have the Black Bear dual pin harness installed. Should the harness turn on both fans on low when the pcm calls for them to turn on or one fan on high? Oem is both fans on low. How is it supposed to work with that harness? I was told it performed just like oem and it isn't. The one fan on high is loud. Also my fans stopped working and I moved the relays around and cleaned them up and they work again? Three months and the were crudded up some already? I put new relays in today thinking I had a bad one and same thing with all new relays? I just want the fans to operate like oem? Is it setting in the pcm or is the harness messed up? Any thoughts would be helpful. Thank you!

  5. I bet it is in the relays. Mine would go out with the nelson harness. I ended up building a better harness with 75 amp relays. The old relays would melt down. Had them change for three years with no problems.

How do you know if its the relays? They look ok, i took them out and cleaned them. Anyway to check them?

  6. Just noticed my 05 e-fans on my 03 silverado aren't working!was talking to my neighbor with the truck in park while running and looked a the temp gauge and it was climbing fast! I have 05 fans with the blackbear harness and have been installed in my truck for three months and no issues at all. I need some help fast on where to even start? Help

  7. Well, 243's are a good way to increase compression. With a stock 64cc combustion chamber on the 243's and your LQ4, your looking at about 10.5:1 SCR vs roughly 9.4:1SCR with the stock 71cc 317's...gasket dependent. The bump in compression will be nice along with the better designed dual quench area of the 243's. I would highly recommend doing a cam at the same time for a big added gain. Consider a 3000+ stall converter and you should have a perky combo.

As for gains on just the head swap...I have read results of about 20HP from the added compression alone. The 317's and 243's flow just about the same however the testing by WCCH has shown a small increase of flow (stock 243's vs stock 317's) going to the 243's most likely due to the better designed combustion chamber. Keep in mind that true LS6 243's have sodium filled valves that will give a slight bump in powerband due to their weight reduction over the steel ones. So if you are looking at 243's and wish to just bolt on and go, look for heads off a true LS6 engine and not the "LS2" version.

Thank you for that great info! Looks like you really know your stuff. I was looking to just use oem gaskets and be done. would like to do a cam but don't want the truck loping like a race care. Any thoughts? I know i can do a cam cheaper than rocker arms and get more gain too. Looking for some good thoughts. Thanks guys!

  8. Went to the dyno(dynojet) today and ran it in third gear, I got 267hp and 286tq. Looking for some input? Again a LQ4 with cold air, 05 e-fans, and 93 Wheatley tune. I have the 4L80e trans with 3:73 gears(14 bolt) and 33" tires. I will post the graph in a little bit. What am i making at the crank?

  9. I have been thinking about putting some 243 heads on my LQ4? I think this a complete just bolt them on and go your mary way. What would my compression raise up to? Any ideas how much gain i could get with the 243's? I'm also thinkinking of then putting on some 1.8 rockers to give me a little more lift. I don't think i would ever do a cam so that would be a simple bolt on at that time of swaping heads. Does this make sense at all? Any other thoughts? I already run 93 with my Wheatley tune so i'm aware of the bump in octane needed. Thanks

  10. Ok, I'm going to try to take my truck to a dyno in the next few weeks. Looking for some numbers these LQ4's put down stock? I have a 03 1500 HD and have a cold air, 05 e-fans, and a 93 Wheatley Tune, the 1500 HD's have a 3:73 in the14 bolt rearend and the 4L80 trans. Just looking for a benchmark. The truck feels really strong now and it become fun to drive! Too bad it weighs 6000+lbs!
