  1. 892 isn't a L92 or LS3 head casting number... the 823 heads are L92 and 821 is the LS3...the casting is the same but the LS3 has the lighter valves... look at the intake valve and see if it has a very smooth maching face if it does it is the lighter valve... the heavier valves look like it is sandblasted.... or very fine sand paper.

You are correct they are 823 heads and yes the valves look rough. they are l92 heads. Are they still worth lookin into, i suppose i could put in LS3 valves then.

  2. ...and the fact it looks like a total ripoff of the Honda Ridgeline. :freak:

GM is just returning the favor to honda, considering the ridgeline is a rip off of the avalanche. It looks ok to me, but we'll have to see how long it takes for them to implement this truck to the U.S. I'm still waiting for the chevy trax, and chevy beat (Transformers 2 Autobots) to make it to the U.S. Not to mention the chevy Groove also. The Beat is sopposed to be in the U.S. re-badged as the Chevy Spark, but I think that got pushed off to 2012. So i'm sure if this does make it over here it probably wont be until 2015 or some time after that

  3. If you transplant a d-max, you'll obviously want the allison trans behind it but you could do a 4l80 if you wanted. You'd have to transfer over the computers (PCM & TCM) the entire engine wiring harness, and the fuel supply system (fuel lines, sender etc.). I dont think the axles would hold up though nor the t-case. But theres only one way to find out LOL! I honestly don't think it would be that hard just really expensive. Here is a company called Durabub, that specializes in duramax conversions. If I were to do it this how.

  4. SSS heads: 317 casting, 70cc comp. chamber, same ports and flow number as 243/799 ls6 heads, kinda of a pain to machine down to 60cc comp. chambers, great for boost though due to its very thick deck!

862 heads: very common gmt800 head, came on all 5.3l and 4.8l engines 07 classic and older, less port flow but they do have very small comp chambers, ls1 guys use to like to port them out and throw them on f-body to net something like 11:1 compression

243/799 heads: came on vette z06, gtos and a lot of the newer gmt 900 trucks/suvs, flow very well and have a 64.5cc comp. chamber which can be surfaced down to a 60cc chamber to bump up you compression a little bit

    Very good to know, thanks

  5. i usually i grab my 243/799's off of bad motors i pull out of gmt900 trucks here at the dealer, i just throw some 862's on the core motors and then they ship them back lol.

Whats the diiference between the 243 & 862 heads? I never knew they were different, always thought they were the same. What heads are on the SSS?

  6. yuk. ya they look way better on the ground. that just looks wrong in sooooo many ways. wat are some people thinking. next we'll be seeing a lifted camaro or vette

Your comment made me think of this -

  7. torsion bar is the long tube that goes from the lower control arm back to the middle of the frame. the keys are the adjusters that are at the frame end of the torsion bars. There is a 18mm head bolt used to adjust the torsion bars. turn the bolt out -frt end goes down, turn the bolt in -frt end goes up. check to make sure those adjuster bolts arent turned in to far,

  8. Tryin to convince the wife she needs one of those. She said to me yesterday "I want an suv". So I said Ive got the perfect vehicle for you! Showed her a pic of one, and she doesnt like the TBSS!! Told her to shut up and keep drivin her impala SS then. Great steal though, Lucky You. I bet you've allready got some plans for it.

  9. How late does it stay open...? I have drill that weekend in Minneapolis and can drive my SSS down for a evening or two..?

I'm honestly not sure. I'm thinking it goes till 6pm or 8pm, but I cant confirm or deny. In past years after it closed at the end of the day I know people would just cruise up and down University Ave. But that street is now under construction, so who knows what people are planning to do now.
