  1. Definitely not worth it to me then. I'd rather buy a supercharger for that kind of money then. Used to see those maaco commercials advertising $500 pain jobs. Figured 2 or 3 times that would get me a decent page job. Lol

  2. Still on the fence about keeping my truck, but if I did, I'd want to get it painted and I'm thinking about flat black. I'm pretty curious how flat black would look on this truck though. I love it on motorcycles (used to own a flat black CBR) but haven't seen any cars/trucks in flat black.

What do guys think? I've seen a lot of custom jobs here, but has anyone had a "normal" paint job done? Never had any car painted and I'm wondering if would come out looking somewhat "factory" or if it's easy to tell it's not original paint. I'm sure it depends on where you get it done....Any thoughts on flat black?

  3. Easy exit is the top button, moves the seat all the way back, and the 1 and 2 are memory for seat and mirror positions if the truck had 2 regular drivers that were different sizes. Hold the button til it beeps and it saves that position.

Thanks, I was wishing I had an easy entrance button for my daughter to get to her booster seat in the back. I'll try saving a position with the seat all the way foward and the back tilted up more.

  4. A question for those of you who have had their front diff rebuilt due to the "whine". I had mine rebuilt a couple months ago and I've noticed the slightest humming sound at certain speeds. It goes away when I left off the gas. My wife can't hear it, so I'm especially sensitive to it since I'm listening for it and well, I paid a thousand dollars to get it fixed. lol

I'm wondering if this humming is "normal" or if it's going to get worse over time. The shop gave me a 2-year warranty so I'm not too concerned, but is there soemthing else that needs to be repaired?

  5. Is there any way to disable this on the key fob? I don't know what it is about this key fob, but I'm accidentally hitting it all the time. It's never been an issue with any of the other cars we've owned. I don't even recall one time that I've hit it accidentally with other cars. Just in the last 2-3 months, I've probably accidentally hit it at least 8 or 9 times. A couple times in the middle of the night at a packed campsite.

I don't see why these key fobs even have that button. If I'm in trouble, the last thing I'm going to do is fumble around for my keys and look for that tiny button. lol And for women, I'm pretty sure a loud scream will get more attention than another annoying car alarm going off.

  6. Just got pulled over today because my right blinker on my trailer doesn't work. It's not getting the signal from the 7-pin connection in the back. I did find a loose black and red wire, anyone know what this is (see pic)? It's not hot so I don't think it has anything to do with my blinker problem. It's also not the same gauge wire as the left blinker one that works fine. The loose wire is thinner.

Also, what does the orange plug do? there's a cap on it and it's unused. Is this for brake assist? I thought this was part of the 7-pin connection.

I checked the fuse box and I had a bad fuse. Replaced it, but still not working. Any ideas?

  7. Yeah, I forgot to mention the heated seats. Driver's side doesn't work.

Just got pulled over today and found out the right blinker trailer light doesn't work. Not the actual light on the trailer, it's not getting the signal from the 7-pin connection in the back. I'll start another thread on this in the appropriate section, hopefully someone can help me out. Just spent the last hour trying and got no where...

One thing after another with this truck...

  8. That would be a tough one. I love my SS and I plan on keeping it, but when I bought it I had a perfectly good 2001 Silverado ECSB 4x4 with low miles. I was making payments to my dad and would have paid it off in less than a year and my payments were only $200 a month. I drove by the local chevy dealership every day for a couple weeks and saw this sexy looking SSS and decided I had to have it.

From a coolness standpoint the SSS it was a smart decision. From a Practical and Financial standpoint the SS was a bad decision. I spent a lot of money on payments and mods. The SS is not the most practical for me because I cant take it off road, hunting, to the dump and I hate driving it in winter, all things I like or have to do. My regualr Silverado I had allowed me to do all those things no problem. With my SS I have to try to keep it spotless which has lead me to spending tons of money on Adams products and Constantly spending time washing it. With my regualr Silverado I was a little more lax and did not care as much obout keeping it spotless.

Sometimes I wish I still had my regualr Silverado but every time I drive my SS and look at it after a fresh detail I remember why I bought it and why I love it.

I sold my Magnum SRT8 and a little Nissan pickup and bought the SS. Biggest reason is the real wheel drive on both vehicles and didn't feel safe taking the 4-yr old in the rear jumper seats of the Nissan. I need a truck for all the remodeling projects we have on the house, wanted 4X4 or AWD for the Mt. Hood/Bachelor and the rain here in Portland, and a hitch for the boat and travel traveler. The SSS seemed like the perfect all-in-one solution. Being a "fast" pickup made it better, and not seeing many around (only saw one other one since buying) was icing on the cake.

I would agree a 10-year old car/truck needs maintenance, but I would call oil changes, timing belts, etc "maintenance". Rebuilding differentials, fixing the instrument panel (still can't believe this had to be done), transmission issues, steering wheel clunk (never even heard of this before this truck) etc are a little unusual. My previous cars/trucks were made between 1983 and 2008 and none had any serious issues. Just ordinary maintenance issues. Maybe I have been lucky up until now, but I just don't think a newer (2000+) truck should have these types of issues. Maybe in the 80's...

I guess I'm just a little disappointed in what could've been the "perfect truck" for me. :(

    Still pretty damn close though...

  9. I'd have to say no for now and I've only owned mine for a couple months. Within the first few weeks I had to have the front diff rebuilt. Just fixed the dash lights and meters myself (WTF?!). Still need to get the steering wheel clunk fixed and I've read that the transmissions on these trucks will probably need to be fixed as well.

I guess I'm just wishing I did more research on my first Chevy purchase. I figured any newer car/truck these days would be pretty reliable. I've owned many imports (cars and trucks), a Dodge Ram and Magnum, and couple Jeeps and I've never had to put this much money in just repairs. My money usually went towards upgrades.

I'm guessing I'll get the typical "Don't let the door hit you on the way out" type replies you see on fanboy forums, but anyone else feel the same or go through this phase?

  10. Is there another muffler I could swap in and keep the dual pipes? I just got back from a camping trip in the mountains and I think this setup is going to be too loud for me to bear. I will be going up frequently pretty much all year (snowboarding/sledding in the winter) so I need something a little more tame on the way up.

    Any suggestions?
