  1. Put the stock bumper and remove the Chevrolet logo from the back and I actually like it. I actually want to put Daytona rims on a fat nitto tire and paint the lettering white.

    Yea I love Daytona rims (or other steel wheels like bassett wheels) on chevy trucks too with lettered tires.

  2. I'm not a mech but I just can't see why you would need one. You got the good parts tho. I figured might have had the torsion bar turn down or something. Prob had a bad tie rod end before the drop. There's just so many people out there that are lowered and never had a issue like this. That I've seen. There's other guys on here that know way more about what it needs or what you need to do than me. Just putting my half a cent in there.. Lol

     

    Yes my problem is already solved by replacing the old tie rod to new one. It rides smooth like before. So basically I don't really have to add a steering damper at this moment and the guy just recommended me to have it. (He said it is not must have, its just good to have)

    He said if I feel the steering wheel picks up the road condition more sensitively than before after I dropped the truck, then it might be a good idea to put a steering damper additionally to give more shock absorbing function for the steering.

  3. Prices vary on parts from state to state, city to city. Labor rates also vary. I do all my work myself so I only pay for parts. I can get the outers for $42.99 each and the inner for $23.99. The labor rate is close to what a dealer charges. Again out her eby me labor rates at shops are $65 a hour which is more than enough time to do both tie rods.

     

    You are talking about the labor just for replacing the rod. If the guy (Taki Motors mechanic) knew my problem was from the tie rod for 100% sure he would charged me minimum. He drove the car with me on the highway to see exactly what I am talking about and also lifted up the truck to check underneith if there is another issue causes the problem. He found out the problem himself and I think those checkup fee should be chargable to customer as well. Im sure the total hour he spent on my truck is at least 3 hours.

    The price for the parts, i dont know how much he marked up on it but i hope he did not buy a cheap quality one...

  4. My jeep has one factory and it's all stock. But the suspension and steering is setup different. Is your truck awd? And how was it lowered? I think the way it was lowered is your problem. I don't think you will benefit form a steering dampener. Our trucks wasn't designed with one. Only reason lifted trucks run one is cause the taller tires and the weight of them. That puts added stress on tie rod ends. That can cause a wobble when you hit a bump.

     

    To answer your question, I installed 3 inch DJM lowering arms and rear 4 inch adjustable shackle and hanger kit. Also the kit came with BELLTECH performance shocks. I got them from NORCAL and this is the most popular kit & way to lower SSS i think. Mine is AWD.

    Ive seen laxuary cars have steering dampers installed as default and also a lot of race cars they install steering dampers additionally after they lower the vehicle. But after I see your comment I am not sure if what the mechanic told me is true or not. I kinda thought it's a good idea to install a steering damper because usually it stops wobbling the steering wheel and also when I started to notice the wobbling issue the first thing I guessed was a steering damper on my SSS but after I checked out underneath I figured SSS doesnt have a steering damper.

     

     

     

     

     

    Any other thought anyone?

  5. I daily drive the SS but i did trade-in my 05 caddy sts for a 08 acura rdx 2.3 turbo for my chick to drive back in November.

    I take that when I can to save on gas its like a big go kart not as much power but still fun to drive cause its lighter and turbocharged.

     

    Cool I also had a 07 Acura RDX back in 2006. I purchased the car because Honda does not make turbo a lot (very rare) and also SH-AWD is a 3000 dollars option in Japan but here it comes as standard. I really liked the car but it put too much miles on it so I traded in for 2013 TSX wagon which i totaled by hurricane sandy in 2012.

  6. Just curious what kind of car you guys own besides Silverado SS.

     

    What is the SSS to you? Is it the daily? work truck? racecar? or just as a weekender?

     

    Personally my SSS is for my surfing truck. I drive it weekends to go Jersey shore or long island NY for surfing.

    For my daily use I have a Scion Xb to commute to my office in Manhattan everyday.

    My wife drives Nissan LEAF (100% EV) everyday and also I have a 1965 VW Microbus that is just for my hobby.

     

    I would like to know what type of car you guys drive besides SSS. I know we all love SSS but what else do you guys also like?

  7. From what I remember steering dampers are installed by guys with lift kits and running larger tires but I would check with Nor cal SS as he does this day in and day out.

    As stated above anytime the front end is touched you should re-align the vehicle.

    Thanks! Yes steering dampers usually installed on 4wd offroad vehicles like Jeep or SUV. Also like you said people install it when they lift up the truck.

    But I've also seen laxually sedans such as Mercedes & BMW have steering dampers as default. So I wonder if my lowered truck will also get some benefit from it like Taki Motors guy told me.....so If you could check with Nor Cal ss that would be really appriciated! thanks in advance ;-)

  8. Good morning guys.

     

    I brought my truck to Taki Motors in Teaneck NJ on Friday and they fixed the problem in the same day! I already picked up the truck and it drives like a cadillac now! ;-)

    They said they found the right side tie rod end is worn a bit. They replaced the right side inner tie rod end and did front wheel alignment & test.

    This is what they charged me.

     

    1) Parts: Inner Tie Rod End (right side only) $100

    2) Labor $100

    3) Front wheel alignment and test $90

     

    I don't know if this is fair $$$ but as long as the car rides smooth now I am so happy!

     

    They said that it may be caused by lowering the truck and wobble problem could come back later by different reasons since I have less shock absorbing than before. So they recommended me to install a steering damper additionally on the truck. They said they will check out the price for the parts and let me know on Monday. Since I already had the service today they said they will install it for me for free (they will only charge $$$ for the parts) if I want to do it.

     

    Do you guys think this is a good idea to put a steering damper?

  9. $700 for parts and labor to replace tie rods is ridiculous. Thats doing both inners and outers. You can buy the parts for about $150 and do the labor yourself. Go with Moog parts, best quality and lifetime warranty. Then you need a alignment afterward. I would check the tie rods myself to make sure they need replacing.

     

    Do you hear and clunking from the steering wheel? if so You part of the problem could be the intermediate steering shaft.

     

    Thanks a lot for your suggestion. (I'm glad I asked!) I will take my truck back from there tomorrow morning and try to check out other place. (I am not a mechanic so i may not be able to do it myself.
