  1. I hear you on building up the motor first. My only reason for wanting the supercharger is that its a large sum of money but once its done any upgrades after (headers, heads, etc) would just be a bonus. I know prices vary a lot, what about the possibility of getting the stock heads machined instead of L92 heads? Who would you recommend for a tune on the truck? L92 heads seem to be still in the range of $1600+, not sure what a comp cam is worth? Tune is a couple hundred and headers/exhaust is probably in the $2000 range again right? I appreciate the imput. When this truck was new they were pretty quick but by todays standards they're not so much. Something about making a 6000lb brick fast just gets me going!
  2. So my SS is currently being restored, will be in the paint booth next week. Truck will look brand new, transmission has been rebuilt and beefed up (stock torque converter though) and interior has been all redone. So I have about $5000 (Canadian) left to do some performance upgrades. I was thinking headers/exhaust, L92 heads, an intake (any suggestions?) and maybe an XR275HR cam along with a custom tune. This isn't a race truck but I want to make sure I can put a Hemi, Denali, or Eco douche in their place. Would I be better to go a magnacharger instead? The truck is my daily and needs to be well mannered on the road if the wife needs to drive it. Am hoping to get it running high 13s low 14s in the 1/4 as a gauge for what my performance expectations are. It's gotta be reliable but also comfortable to use. It's working days are over with the exception of a small utility trailer from time to time. So... Supercharger or go all motor? I am planning on doing a post of the whole restoration once it comes out of the paint booth, have been taking lots of pics. Very excited to have it looking new again! Also, has anyone here installed a Ravelco system on their trucks? Apparently it makes it essentially unstealable without a tow truck? Any input would be appreciated Cheers!
  3. I'm getting my SS ready for a paint job and am replacing the hood, both fenders and just picked up a new box. Before it goes in I want to paint the trucks frame and the inside of the box, fenders and hood to prevent rusting. I plan on keeping this my daily driver (Canada so it's gonna roll in salt) but want to protect common rust areas on the truck. What has kept your truck from rusting? Por15/dom16? Spray in box liner? What have you done that works?
  4. The trucks looking a bit tired and I think I need to replace both front fenders. Where is the best place to source them? I'm looking for better quality pieces, not necessarily the cheapest option. Is LMC truck any good? I live in Canada so sourcing originals is going to be difficult without rust issues.
  5. Don't give up either man, it took me almost 3 years to track down my SS again after selling it (regretted immediately btw). Stick with it, good luck
  6. Would be interested in this, keep us posted
  7. So I just received my new buttons to repair the factory Bose 6 disc changer. Anyone have any tips or advice on how to go about taking the stereo apart? Kinda surprised I couldn't find a YouTube video about that specific unit.
  8. I may have to hold off on parting out the truck at the moment. I'll post when parts are for sale but at the moment the plan has been put on hold.
  9. This ravelco sounds like exactly what I'm looking for. Nothing stops a tow truck but I know of 3 SS trucks stolen locally and they were all driven away
  10. It's a black 2003 SS. I'm going on holidays wednesday but will start getting parts off in April. Send me a pm and I'll take pictures of the parts for you once their off. It's a complete truck at the moment
  11. I remember in high school that my shop teacher gave me something for my Chevelle. It was a battery disconnect he picked up at princess auto where a piece would unscrew from the battery terminal and without this piece the battery didn't make a connection. The best idea would be to be able to put a program on the ECM that just wont let the truck start/move. Almost like erase the ECM so there is no program for the truck. Is there any way to disconnect a part and just take it with me? Doubtful they're going to bring a spare starter but without it the truck goes nowhere. I know as soon as I bring mine back its gonna get ripped off so I need to do something.
  12. So I finally have the truck in the shop and am hoping to start parting it in the next month or so. Wondering if anyone here is interested and let me know what you would be looking for so I can reply with pics/price.
  13. I'm thinking that my SS might become my daily driver again. My wife has an SUV that is the primary family vehicle and my SS would become the secondary daily/what I drive to work and stuff without the kids. I'm thinking of ways I can make my truck difficult to steal and was wondering if anyone tried disconnecting the battery and installing locking hood pins? Seems like that might be one of the easiest ways to stop theft. Any thoughts? Any other suggestions?
  14. The time has finally come that my SS will begin the process of being restored. I'm taking all the small trim pieces off the truck and painting them individually before the whole truck goes in for paint. Where can I get a can of Onyx Black 41u paint? I have a small paint gun for air brushing that I'm going to use so I need a can of paint, not a touch up pen or spray can. Also, any suggestions on a primer or anything else that I should put under the new paint? Thanks for your help guys, I'll post pictures as the work begins Cheers!
  15. I have 2 of them, both 2003s, both black awd SS trucks. The one I have had the longest and on the road has about 145 000 miles (240000km) and the other truck needs some body attention but runs great and has around 165 000 miles (265 000km). My original SS with 240 000km I bought when I was 20 and just thrashed on it constantly. It has the original driveline and other than brakes and oil changes the truck is untouched. Not sure on the other truck but it runs great
  16. Thank you for the advice. The iPod hookup has been on the truck for probably 5 years now. Thanks and I'll let you know what it was once I find the problem
  17. There is a Connection on the back of the stereo head unit to hook up my iPod but other than that there is nothing. If I could get the truck started would it possibly reset the module?
  18. When I bought the truck back 2 years ago the battery was junk. I replaced it with a cheaper alternative and after a year it failed too. At the start of this year I put a better quality battery in thinking I had bought a bad battery but now seem to be having the same problem again. I can't imagine 2 bad batteries back to back, seems unlikely but not impossible. I was thinking it was a bad ground of something draining the battery...
  19. I parked my ss in the garage back in November but we've had a very mild winter and was going to take it out for a bit and the battery was dead. I put a booster on it and charged the battery but when I went to start the truck it still wouldn't fire and the CD player kept clicking like it was changing CDs and the speakers were buzzing. Anyone had something like this? Point me in a direction to fix? Thanks guys
  20. So I went to start up my 03 SS the other day and the battery was dead. I tried to charge up the battery but even after an hour I couldn't get the truck to even turn over. Seemed like it didn't have enough juice even though the battery charger said 14 volts. Also, the CD player was going crazy and the speakers were making weird sounds. Anyone had this before? I haven't had time to really look into it but was looking for a direction to start, I'm thinking a bad ground somewhere?
  21. I could care less what people consider cool. I really like it and to be honest it's not worth anything at this point. I have/am toying with the idea of buying another one just as a winter beater/truck that will replace my 2011 Sierra when it's done since my SS will never see salt or snow again. I mean the ss is hard on gas but you can get nice ones cheap now and just enjoy it and the awd SS is made for playing in snow. These trucks aren't collectors items, they will never have the value of a lightning or an srt10 ram but that's not why I bought it. If any one here wants to get rid of their low mileage SS take it to the dealership and when they offer you 5000 for it bring it to me so I can buy it instead.
  22. The new camaro is cool but you gotta compare apples to apples. Would I rather have a 10 000 sport truck or a 50 000 sports car? I'd rather have a 10G sport truck with 10 under the hood and a nice c6 vette for when I wanna play without the kids
  23. So it sounds like a RCSB Awd 6.0l manual Silverado is not really possible? Still looking into that but it sounds like the weight of the truck (approx 4800lbs) is just too much strain on the manual transmission when it's hooked up to awd for launching. Given the choice would you rather have awd auto or manual rwd assuming you already have an awd ss? I know lots of guys have a 4x4 RCSB or rwd so awd would be pretty unique. I could just start stripping weight out of the truck. It'll never carry a load again but it could be possible to shave some serious weight from the truck with enough dedication. The sheet metal is light, but tail gate, bumper bracing/brackets, essentially it would be like a lightning where it looks like a truck but isn't really... The trick would be to remove weight without the truck looking stripped out.
  24. Damn these heavy kick ass machines! I have an 03 SS parts truck sitting around that I was going to use as the doner truck but really wanted a stick. So I could do it but not with awd or would it still be a problem? How does the srt10 ram have a stick then? So you couldn't bolt on slicks to make them stick in the Ram?
  25. I'm wondering if anyone has experience or knows of someone that has done what I'm about to suggest. I've always liked the Syclone but wish it was a stick. I love my 2003 Silverado ss and I know they're too heavy to swap to manual. I have a chevelle in the process of being restored, my 03 will be going in the following year so this is 2 years away. I am wondering if anyone has built a RCSB SS clone in awd with a stick. I would use the driveline and engine from an ss and there are lots of 99-05 RCSB silverados for sale now for less than a grand but I would look specifically for a 4x4 to do the swap. I want the awd system, driven 4x4 and it's just not the same. I can't be the first one to think of this, is weight still a problem with the manual? Has it been done? I just want something different, the chevelle is fun for burning up tires, my 03 is fun too but neither is a stick. I'm thinking this would be a fun truck to put a turbo on with a stick
