  1. I think Johnny is right here, that looks like it's on the arm, and given the location and looks of it, it looks like some sort of camber gauge. Has the truck been lowered?

Makes total sense to be the camber gauge. The truck hasn't been lowered to my knowledge, other than from standard 1500 height to SS height from factory.

  2. The weather has been finally good on a day off work since I bought this truck a few months back, so I was just out checking the whole thing over and discovered this. I have never seen anything like this before, but then I am more used to old muscle cars and not as much on today's technology lol. Looks like it's adjustable or something since there are marks on the metal part. Check out the pics, no doubt someone on this forum can help me out. It's on both sides in the front of the truck. Thanks.

  3. York PA, are you looking for z71 ride height? You could simply go to the dealership buy the rear blocks, then add a Bilstein shock setup for your year SS (5100 or 5160 series for a z71 pending leveling or not). The 4600s are for stock height SS trucks, then their are 5100s, 5160s, you could check into Fox 2.0 series 0-1 lift, 2.0 series level kit with/without reservoir. You could make a nice suspension to your liking.

Doesn't matter if it's stock z71 or not, but I figure it would be easier on the awd parts to go as little up as possible. So a standard 1500 height would be pretty much right. Thanks for the information, it definitely helps in making a decision on how to put this truck to standard 1500 height. What you are saying is to buy the blocks for the standard 1500 and then buy the 5100 or 5160 all the way around and this will put it right back to factory non-ss height?

  4. Long Travel SS - http://jdfabrication.com/

I could not get past the opening page but it did have some prices, may want to give them a ring.

You could go with Bilstein shocks (not the 46's). Get a leveling system and add the Bilsteins 52's.

Thread on the site awhile ago about lifting, read JaymZss post. http://www.silveradoss.com/forums/topic/58335-lift-question/

I am not looking to do a true lift like a 6" suspension and all of that, I don't want this a mud truck. I would buy a pre-79 Chevy if I were to do that...which I would love to some time lol. So if I buy a leveling kit and the Bilstein 52's than it will sit like a standard Silverado, or real close to it?

No one has yet to chime in on whether this will prematurely wear out some of the AWD parts or not. Anyone have any ideas on that?

  5. Thanks for the imput. I don't want to do a body lift, that gap between the bumper and body is killing me as is, couldn't imagine anything worse anywhere else. That bumper mod is in the works to fiz this. I want to go to stock Silverado height, not put a lift kit on the truck. I know this is probably blasphemous in the SS world lol, but I use the truck more as a truck than I do anything else...besides my daily driver, for now. I will look around and see if anyone has the original parts off a Silverado they took off to lower theirs, that's a good idea. I appreciate the feedback, feel free to add more. Anything would be appreciated.

  6. I love this bumper mod, I haven't had my truck but for maybe 2 months now and look at that gap everyday. I can't stand it, glad to see there is a pretty easy way to fill it. Definitely on my to do list!!

  7. Was looking around a bit and couldn't quite find the answers I was looking for on this. What are the negatives of taking my 03 SS and making it the factory hight of a normal non SS Silverado? Maybe it would hurt the AWD system, or too much of an angle on the hubs and axels? I love this SS and I know it's a sport truck, but I do lot of stuff offroad with the ATV's and such and would be nice to have that little extra ground clearance for when we have to tow offroad a little bit to get where we are going. Is this something that is easily accomplished or is there too much of a risk damaging the components of the AWD? Maybe someone makes a kit that changes the geometry to make it ok to lift it back up those 2"? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

P.S.- Love thes forums, so informative and it's awesome that people actually answer your questions!

  8. It's been my experience when it comes to stuff like this, there is usually a big enough difference or the manufacturer wouldn't state those specific years. 2007 is the start of a new body style, from what I read it's taller and wider than the previous body.Overall body-to-wheel proportions have been improved as well; combined with the wider, lower stance. That alone means you can really run into fitment problems. Stick to what is specific to your year(s)

  9. I think I am just going to chalk it up to "one of those things". It's only done it 3 times, and hasn't for about a week. I do use 2 different key fobs. One stays in the truck and has just the key and fob, the other stays in my pocket and has house and work keys on it it ( I can't stand hearing the keys jingling and bouncing around hitting off stuff, so I use the one that stays in the truck to start it lol). Makes sense about the memory settings, so I played around with all 3 sets it have, didn't make a lick of difference which one I used, I could not replicate the issue. the seat hasn't moved position when the issue arose, but I did fail to mention the heat setting also changed during those times. Again, guess it's just one of those things, hopefully this is not my Christine....had an F-150 that sent me through hell....never again lol.

  10. A few times now since I have owned my 03 SS(about a month now),I turn the truck off, go into the store(for 2 minutes or so) and when I come back the truck is locked(I don't lock it if I am running in to get milk or a drink) and the radio settings have changed. For example: If there is a CD playing, when I come back out it's on a totally different track not even close to what was on when I got out. Sometimes i'll have the radio playing and when I start it back up the CD or cassette will be on...or vise versa. I never loose the presets on the FM or anything that would indicate a power lose. Just really weird the doors would lock themselves and the radio does it's own thing. I guess it possible to hit the lock button in my pocket, but usually just goes in the loose pocket of my hoodie if I'm just going in real quick. Any insight on this?

  11. I think some of you guys are getting that kind of milage out of your suspension because of where you live. Pennsylvania has the top 10 worst roads in the country. I might as well just be off-roading with how deplorable these roads are around here, soo many potholes, ripples or just the road wearing away. You can't go a mile without putting that suspension to the test lol

  12. I'm at stock height and just replaced with stock shocks brandnew stock shocks work awesome and last forever think I paid 75 a piece at the dealer stock doesn't meen cheap i got over 100000 miles out of my original ones

Even if you replaced with stock shocks and added a rear sway bar like said you would notice a Hugh differance when your towing I wouldnt get a street performance shock for towing thats my opinion some stock shocks from chevy are factory bilstein shocks right off the showroom floor from chevy

also get a set of bump stops for the front and back they will also help mine were rotted and beat up yours could be too they were only 40-60 bucks but help a lot when your stock ones are junk

Thanks for the info, just so happens I work at a GM dealership and get GM stuff cheap. You do make a good point about street shocks for towing. I am definitely going to look into a rear sway bar and maybe those bump stops too

  13. It's been my experience most shock manufacturers recommend replacing them around the 50,000 miles mark. Considering my truck has over 40,000 and has done A LOT of just sitting around since 2003, and I plan on doing some towing again once spring hits, I think it's not a bad idea. Was just wondering what everyone's opinion was on the best shock to replace the ones that came from factory, and what ones would do best with what I am towing. Which I did figure out to be 3,200lbs (Trailer, 2 sport quads on the trailer and one in the bed)...maybe a dirtbike on the trailer too time to time.

  14. I have looked around on here a good bit but didn't find exactly what I am looking for...the wasn't a highly outdated thread. I just bought an 03 SS with 40,000 miles on it last week, but am concerned about how well it would pull. Seems to me that it would sag way to much with a 6x10 trailer, 2 sport quads on said trailer and an atv in the bed. Maybe I am wrong, I haven't tried it yet considering I won't be doing any riding again until Spring( I live in the northeast, been getting some good snowfall) What shocks/suspension could I put on this truck to help get the best of both worlds, everyday driving and some towing on the weekends? I traded in my 2014 Tundra for this truck and that thing pulled very, very well. I had 4 Silverado's in the past,(and am a big GM fan) but that weak 5.3 doesn't cut it in the mountains and didn't want to drive a 2500 as a daily driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated. As far as I know it's at stock SS height. Sounds badass with the Magnaflow exhaust!

  15. Just bought an 03 SS last week from a dealership I work for. Love these trucks and have wanted one for a long time. This one only has 42,000 miles on it, real nice interior and paint. The bed... well it was used to haul stuff at some point in it's life. I plan to use it to haul my 6x10 trailer and some atv's. I traded my 2014 Toyota Tundra in on this because I wanted one so bad lol, so hopefully it pulls good....slightly concerned about the lower ride height. I am the 2nd owner and was traded in on a day I was off work, would of loved to talk to the original owner....hopefully I see him around the dealership at some pioint. Better pics are to follow.
