  1. Long time SSS owner and member here, checking in for the first time in a very long time. Great to see so much activity on the site and continued interest in these great trucks. I've had mine since new in 2003, and although it now sits retired from daily duty it's still great fun to take it out from time to time. I've had lots of other cars come and go over the years since getting the SSS, but it's still here.

Anyways, I stopped in today because I want to upgrade my stock headlight housings to LED. Got some on eBay with the little fans on the back, and quickly learned today they don't clear the plastic support structure behind. Reading here looks like it will need to be trimmed which I don't really want to do. Are there any lower profile replacement LED bulbs available that you guys are using? Thanks!

  2. just pay a lawyer to handle your ticket. i paid 75 bucks for the lawyer and a 90 dollar fine, no points no traffic school.

How does that work? I've heard of traffic lawyers, but they were a lot more than $75.

If you need traffic school, doing it online is pretty easy.

  3. Sorry about the ticket, that always sucks.

The only way a V1 can help with laser is when it detects the people ahead of you getting hit, and you have time to slow down by the time they hit you with it. Laser is instant on/off, and does not emit the signal constantly like radar which allows the V1 to notify you miles ahead.

  4. Some Silverado SS Exhaust 101

The stock muffler on a SSS is dual 2.5" in dual 3" out, which comes together at a Y pipe and becomes a single 3.5" to the tip. The size of the stock piping can actually provide plenty of flow for most applications/engine mods, but sounds too quiet for most guys tastes and the image of these trucks. The muffler and catalytics are the only minor bottlenecks in the system.

One of the stock muffler 3" outlets is more of a resonator chamber than an actual outlet, as I learned when I removed mine. There were pics of one cut open somewhere on this site years ago, a search might find it.

Be aware that even though it will sound great, you will loose some low end torque with that big Magnaflow Dual in/out (or any free flowing muffler), as it actually "Over exhausts" the stock engine (even with a CAI/tune). I did the same thing years ago, that's how I know. As strange as it sounds, you actually need some backpressure for low end torque. Unless you plan on some really big power adders in the future, consider getting a dual 2.5" in / single 3" out and loose the Y pipe that leads to the tip - this is actually what Magnaflow recommends.

Talk to your local muffler shop and ask their opinion too, as they do this all day. Also try to listten to other trucks with different setups to get ideas of sound levels inside and outside of the truck.

  5. According to Bilstein when I called them, they do not make a shock for a lowered SSS. You can try experimenting with their general purpose shocks hoping to get the correct extended and compressed dimensions correct, and the specs for those are posted on their website, but who knows if the valving will be correct etc - and they won't release specs for non general purpose shocks to try and make a more educated guess on what to buy.

  6. what amount of drop are these for ? are the rear 2 different lengths ?

    Thanks

The truck they came off is lowered about 2.5" in the front and 4" in the rear. According to Belltech the fronts are suitable for a 0"-5" drop. and the rears and good for a 2"-4" drop - so they cover a fairly wide range to fit most ride heights.

  7. hey guys sorry to dig up an old post, but i have a part number question.

I called belltech to get the part number for a stock ride height ss and they gave me 310400 and 2212ff for the part numbers. I took the shocks out and measured them before installing them and the rears are 1.5" shorter and the fronts are .75 shorter. So the guys that used them are they on a stock ride height truck and if so are those the part numbers you used?

    Thanks Much!

    Brad

Those are the part #'s for a lowered SSS (also). If you are at stock ride height, I would suggest the Bilsteins.

  8. Wow, I just logged on to the site for the first time in a while and very sorry to hear about this loss. I'm in So Cal 90066, and have a very nice slightly used stroller that you can have to replace the one that got stolen if that helps your situation any.
