Glad you're ok. I know the feeling. Mine got stolen and stripped back in July of last year and I think of the junkyard scenario often. I replaced the SS with a 2011 Ram Crew Cab Hemi and every time my wife and I are driving around in the Dodge, I say to her "Man, I miss my SS". Good luck finding a replacement!

Yeah, it does have some nice features. There's a heated steering wheel, heated and a/c'd driver/passenger seats. It has a reverse back-up camera with proximity sensors. The nav system is pretty neat. It takes voice commands, which I have yet to read up on how to operate, and gives vocal turn by turn directions when you set a destination. The Hemi is pretty peppy. One weird thing on the Ram is the wheels have a chromed plastic face. They are not chromed over metal. I'm thinking Corsa Sport exhaust in the near future.

Yeah, the pain is slowly fading away. Even with the new truck, there is a hole where the SS is concerned.

Update: I finally saw pics of the truck and it was not stripped as badly as was reported. She was totaled none the less. They took the tailgate, all of the interior, the bumpers, wheels, bed-liner, exhaust, front grille, third brake light and factory cd changer and my sub and amp. Payoff from the insurance was $19,153. Went and put that down on a 2011 Dodge Ram Crew Cab Sport 1500. Its black and reminds me of the SS. I love the new truck, but I do sometimes miss the SS. Have to admit the Hemi does have some balls along with some nice features that weren't available on the SS. Have already put a Viper alarm on the new whip. The Ram was a great deal with my employee affiliate discount through my work, so don't hate on me too much! .

How does insurance arrive at a pay-off amount? I see where trucks are going from anywhere between $13k and $21k on cars.com. The KBB value for mine goes from $15385-$18335 depending on fair to excellent rating and for equipment and mileage.

I wanna take the time to thank all of the people of this forum for all of the fun and information that I've gleaned from my years of membership/ownership. You are a dedicated lot. I've learrned a lot from your posts and although I'm not much of a poster myself and a lot of what I was able to do to my own personal truck was dictated by my limited budget, I was able to live vicariously through a lot of you guys and your endless builds and creativity. I experienced elation for those who have built their trucks to the hilt. You guys in the 10 sec club, I proudly bragged about to my friends as if it were a family member graduating from college with a PhD (luckily I have friends who are car junkies like me). I have never enjoyed any one vehicle as much as I have enjoyed this one. She will be missed and I'm sorry I won't be able to achieve all of the things with her that I had envisioned. The future was looking brighter in that I was just before relegating the SS to a second vehicle that was going to allow me to start toying with her. Thanks for the years and thanks for the shared passion. I'm over, but I'm not out!

Well, its official. By no choice of my own, I am no longer a Silverado SS owner and cannot stand the thought that my baby was violated in such a manner. She has been totally stripped. The people that reported the truck to the police couldn't even identify what type of vehicle was left from the parts. It was found in the Castle Hills development area in North Dallas.

Yeah, when they hit me last year, I was so paranoid it was crazy! Had all kinds of wacko thoughts of how to "lock her down"; chain through the wheels/frame, $1000 alarm systems, night vision cameras. Not to mention the physical damage I wanted to inflict on the mofo's. Now I'm revisiting those thoughts again?!?!?! Forgive me for saying this, but I could off one of those thieven bastids and still sleep like a baby at night. Just sayin'.

Thanks for the well wishes! I will keep this topic updated with (hopefully good) news. Just sux cuz this is the only vehicle that I've owned that I felt like I had a long-term commitment to keep. All others I got bored with within 3 years and dumped off for something else. And I was enjoying having no payments since Nov of '10. Right now, my insurance is paying for a '10 Dodge Charger for 30 days. Hoping it gets found before time runs out. If not, I will have to make a heartbreaking decision!

Hey guys, havent been around in awhile. My truck was stolen right from my driveway sometime between 11:30PM and 3:00AM July 13th. I live North of Dallas/Ft Worth. I'm praying for a safe return with minimal damage. Have there been any other thefts lately? My B n E left no broken glass on the ground. Probably went through the door panel, again. Truck was broken into back in May of last year, now this! It doesn't pay to drive anything nice. Officer who took the report, took my bulbs from my motion light. Bastids backed the bulbs out so they could work in the dark. Hope they can get some prints off of them.

I save that driving for the empty parking lots! Did that yesterday with the wife. She covered her eyes with both hands while I did a 720 spin across half the parking lot. Seriously though, ice is a mother to get a slide going. I stab the gas and cut the wheel and the truck just keeps plowing straight ahead. diggerdan11, I read an article once that said exactly what you said regarding narrow tires. Narrow tires get better ice/snow traction than wide tires because of the extra downforce on the more narrow contact patch.

I live in North Texas and we got hit with sleet/freezing rain Monday night and most of the day Tuesday. We've had ice on the roads ever since. I've ventured out several times on the ice and consider myself a decent "ice trucker", but I've seen some folks doing some foolish things. We in the South don't get to hone our skills as well as folks to our North. Some obstacles I've come up against the last couple of days are - having to stop on slight inclines and restart (dang near impossible with 2wd) - braking on down hill slopes (saw a couple of run-away vehicles "skating" downhill) - turning into off camber drives and plowing/sliding a little. I'm interested in what folks do to prepare for driving on ice. Do you carry sand for emergency traction? Do you "air down" the tires? What works? How do you deal with the abs? Does it really help on the ice?
