  1. You can read here about my ordeal. My truck was an 06 also. It was stolen from my driveway and stripped. My payoff from insurance was $19153 after all submitted receipts.
  2. Glad you're ok. I know the feeling. Mine got stolen and stripped back in July of last year and I think of the junkyard scenario often. I replaced the SS with a 2011 Ram Crew Cab Hemi and every time my wife and I are driving around in the Dodge, I say to her "Man, I miss my SS". Good luck finding a replacement!
  3. Yeah, it does have some nice features. There's a heated steering wheel, heated and a/c'd driver/passenger seats. It has a reverse back-up camera with proximity sensors. The nav system is pretty neat. It takes voice commands, which I have yet to read up on how to operate, and gives vocal turn by turn directions when you set a destination. The Hemi is pretty peppy. One weird thing on the Ram is the wheels have a chromed plastic face. They are not chromed over metal. I'm thinking Corsa Sport exhaust in the near future.
  4. Yeah, the pain is slowly fading away. Even with the new truck, there is a hole where the SS is concerned.
  5. Here are some pics of the new truck: Below is a close-up of the paint color. It is black with metalflake in it! A pretty kick-butt color!
  6. Update: I finally saw pics of the truck and it was not stripped as badly as was reported. She was totaled none the less. They took the tailgate, all of the interior, the bumpers, wheels, bed-liner, exhaust, front grille, third brake light and factory cd changer and my sub and amp. Payoff from the insurance was $19,153. Went and put that down on a 2011 Dodge Ram Crew Cab Sport 1500. Its black and reminds me of the SS. I love the new truck, but I do sometimes miss the SS. Have to admit the Hemi does have some balls along with some nice features that weren't available on the SS. Have already put a Viper alarm on the new whip. The Ram was a great deal with my employee affiliate discount through my work, so don't hate on me too much! .
  7. How does insurance arrive at a pay-off amount? I see where trucks are going from anywhere between $13k and $21k on cars.com. The KBB value for mine goes from $15385-$18335 depending on fair to excellent rating and for equipment and mileage.
  8. I wanna take the time to thank all of the people of this forum for all of the fun and information that I've gleaned from my years of membership/ownership. You are a dedicated lot. I've learrned a lot from your posts and although I'm not much of a poster myself and a lot of what I was able to do to my own personal truck was dictated by my limited budget, I was able to live vicariously through a lot of you guys and your endless builds and creativity. I experienced elation for those who have built their trucks to the hilt. You guys in the 10 sec club, I proudly bragged about to my friends as if it were a family member graduating from college with a PhD (luckily I have friends who are car junkies like me). I have never enjoyed any one vehicle as much as I have enjoyed this one. She will be missed and I'm sorry I won't be able to achieve all of the things with her that I had envisioned. The future was looking brighter in that I was just before relegating the SS to a second vehicle that was going to allow me to start toying with her. Thanks for the years and thanks for the shared passion. I'm over, but I'm not out!
  9. Well, its official. By no choice of my own, I am no longer a Silverado SS owner and cannot stand the thought that my baby was violated in such a manner. She has been totally stripped. The people that reported the truck to the police couldn't even identify what type of vehicle was left from the parts. It was found in the Castle Hills development area in North Dallas.
  10. Yeah, when they hit me last year, I was so paranoid it was crazy! Had all kinds of wacko thoughts of how to "lock her down"; chain through the wheels/frame, $1000 alarm systems, night vision cameras. Not to mention the physical damage I wanted to inflict on the mofo's. Now I'm revisiting those thoughts again?!?!?! Forgive me for saying this, but I could off one of those thieven bastids and still sleep like a baby at night. Just sayin'.
  11. Thanks for the well wishes! I will keep this topic updated with (hopefully good) news. Just sux cuz this is the only vehicle that I've owned that I felt like I had a long-term commitment to keep. All others I got bored with within 3 years and dumped off for something else. And I was enjoying having no payments since Nov of '10. Right now, my insurance is paying for a '10 Dodge Charger for 30 days. Hoping it gets found before time runs out. If not, I will have to make a heartbreaking decision!
  12. Hey guys, havent been around in awhile. My truck was stolen right from my driveway sometime between 11:30PM and 3:00AM July 13th. I live North of Dallas/Ft Worth. I'm praying for a safe return with minimal damage. Have there been any other thefts lately? My B n E left no broken glass on the ground. Probably went through the door panel, again. Truck was broken into back in May of last year, now this! It doesn't pay to drive anything nice. Officer who took the report, took my bulbs from my motion light. Bastids backed the bulbs out so they could work in the dark. Hope they can get some prints off of them.
  13. I save that driving for the empty parking lots! Did that yesterday with the wife. She covered her eyes with both hands while I did a 720 spin across half the parking lot. Seriously though, ice is a mother to get a slide going. I stab the gas and cut the wheel and the truck just keeps plowing straight ahead. diggerdan11, I read an article once that said exactly what you said regarding narrow tires. Narrow tires get better ice/snow traction than wide tires because of the extra downforce on the more narrow contact patch.
  14. I live in North Texas and we got hit with sleet/freezing rain Monday night and most of the day Tuesday. We've had ice on the roads ever since. I've ventured out several times on the ice and consider myself a decent "ice trucker", but I've seen some folks doing some foolish things. We in the South don't get to hone our skills as well as folks to our North. Some obstacles I've come up against the last couple of days are - having to stop on slight inclines and restart (dang near impossible with 2wd) - braking on down hill slopes (saw a couple of run-away vehicles "skating" downhill) - turning into off camber drives and plowing/sliding a little. I'm interested in what folks do to prepare for driving on ice. Do you carry sand for emergency traction? Do you "air down" the tires? What works? How do you deal with the abs? Does it really help on the ice?
  15. If you're in the mood for some 80's style R&R, here are a couple of lesser known bands that kick butt. Just something different! Pink Cream 69 Hardline - band from Sweden - NSFW video due to language and sexual inference - funny shit - they are mostly a coverband
  16. You probably heard of a lot of these. Just trying to keep it to some things you might not have listened to before. 10 Years Airbourne Alter Bridge Atomship Black Tide Cavo Closure Cold Cross Canadian Ragweed Dead By Sunrise Depswa Endeverafter In This Moment - not crazy about screaming vocals on their other albums, but they sing normal on The Dream album. Chick singer, too. Jet Black Stare Jibe Karnivool Kill Hannah Killswitch Engage Lo-Pro - solid rock band! Oleander Porcupine Tree - prog rock band Ra - the rock band Ra Radford Rev Theory Silvertide Smile Empty Soul Social Code Stereoside Submersed The Exies The Veer Union Vonray
  17. Check out this video! Someone sent this link to me in an e-mail. Kid is already a superstar! http://www.komonews.com/sports/heroes/111892554.html
  18. Check out Californication on Showtime. Can't wait for the new season to start on Jan. 9.
  19. If it makes you feel any better, this is what happens when the wife leaves a very mechanical minded, very curious 8yo boy in a running car while the wife stands in the driveway talking to the neighbors.
  20. I got a power pack portable power source and an electric impact wrench. I gotta see if the inverter built into the power pack will run the wrench. If not then I'm gonna get an inverter that will run the impact wrench so I can take them with me on road trips.
  21. Interesting! I figured that no matter where you connected the negative jumper cable the dead battery was within the same circuit regardless.
  22. So I'm reading reviews for portable battery boosters and I come across a comment made regarding proper booster cable connections. The comment below has me curious if there is any truth to this. I assumed that the only reason to hook the dead negative battery cable to a bare body part was to prevent an explosion due to spark. Is this comment ? <Quote> "Quality product. Enough amps to start gasoline engines, and small diesels. Used properly, this 'jumper' will perform when needed. To eliminate the draw of a discharged battery, connect the positive (red) cable to the positive (red) post of the auto...... connect the negative (black) cable to a solid ground in the engine compartment, not the negative (black) post of the battery. If you connect the jumper directly to the posts of a discharged battery, the discharged battery will try to siphon 'juice' from the jumper, preventing the starter motor from getting the 'juice' it needs to spin the engine. By connecting the negative cable to an engine ground, the low battery condition is removed from the electrical equation." <Quote>
  23. Being that I was raised up Southern Baptist, I can say that that is a pretty accurate hypothetical situation and down-right funny as heck to boot!
  24. Hate to say it, but you're probably not gonna get much of a response regarding your post for help due to the fact that most everyone in here has gone with a custom tune from one of the vendors on the site. I had a Super Chips programmer I used on my truck for a while and I found that the results were not impressive at all. After I got my Black Bear tune, I was kicking myself for not going with a custom sooner! For the time that I ran the hand-held, I ended up running the hottest tune with the trans settings set to the "stock" settings. Anything higher and the tranny banged shifts at part-throttle around-town driving. It was embarrasing to drive around with the SC tune in with anyone else in the truck because the trans would bang part-throttle shifts and people would give me that look like "Is your trans messed up?". Over time, even the "stock" setting would learn its way into this rough shifting behaviour. Hopefully someone will jump in with some advice for you besides "dump the handheld and get a custom" response.
