  1. The good news is I got a settlement for my truck and made out pretty good. I bought a 2010 Dodge Challanger RT with a Hemi and a 6 speeed manual trans. The bad news is the insurance company wanted $5000 to buy it back so I passed on that. Thanks everyone for all the help over the years. Everyone made my life a whole lot easier.

  2. I'll know in a few days whats going on. I got cought up in some slush during the storm Thursday in Upstate NY and hit the end of a guard rail going about 50 mph. I didn't get hurt but the right front got wacked pretty good. Insurance says about $14000 damage. Other than the right front the rest of the truck is great. The tonneau cover is a speedstur with a silver SS stripe and the tail gate has a shaved handle.

  3. I totaled my 04 SSS yesturday and I'm going to see what the insurance company wants to buy it back. The right front is hit hard but the right side and from th cab back is still good. It has a factory navigation unit, speedster tonneau cover and all the cladding. I may buy it and sell it as is on E-Bay. The transfer case was new when I put it on the road in 06. We'll see what happens next week.

  4. I have a nerve racking squeaky rubbing noise in the steering column. It seems to be coming from the area where it goes thru the boot on the fire wall. I've tries spraying it from the inside and outside with fluid film and wd-40 but nothing seems to work. Anyone else ever had this problem? Thanks for any input.

  5. I'll try the pruge solenoid next. I had new converters put in last year. They wouldn't cover them becayse I have a salvage title. My truck was a Katrina flood truck that we rebuilt. Do you know or can you find out what the specs are for the MAF sensor and the O2 sensors? Usually the lite is on steady all the time. Once in a while it will flash. Would a bad Purge Solenoid also cause a misfire ? Just a thought.

  6. I had these codes last year and tried alot of the sugestions members recomended but the CEL kept comming on. Most of the time steady but once in a while it flashes. I cleaned the MAF ( it looked a little corroded ) and checked the connections, put in a new vent solenoid, plugs, wires, and cleaned the air filter. I gave up but now I need a NY State Inspection and it won't pass with the CEL on. I don't care what I have to do th fix it, I just con't want to replace things that don't need to be changed. Could someone tell me the normal readings for the MAF and O2 sensors so I can have a friend check them with a Snap -On Modus. Any help sure would be appreciated. If I lined near Long Island I'd pay the Fireman to fix it. Thanks in advance. This site is the best.

  7. check and see how much it is to get them re-dipped

Good idea but after talking to a chrome plating outfit near by he said I'd be better off buying new. The wheels I have are aftermarket and are junk. Thanks anyway for the input.

  8. I have ran my factory chrome wheels for the last three winters, with regular cleanings and regular polishings, they are holding up just fine. Sounds to me like whoever manufactured those rims did a poor job of the chroming process....

That's what I thought. I'm looking at some GM aftermarket wheels you can buy from the dealer. I would guess they are the same quality as the OEM wheels. For the 04 SS they only list 20" but for the 07, 08 & 09 they list 22". A dealer I talked to wasn't sure if they would fit, but I believe they will. Do you know if there would be a problem?

  9. I bought 22" aftermarket wheels that look like the factory 20" wheels and after two winters in upstate New York they are shot. The chrome is peeling off and they look like crap. I'm going to buy new wheels. Does anyone know if the factory rims hold up better or if there is a quality aftermarket wheel that will hold up to the NY State salt. My neighbor has a Ford that he has driven for years and his chrome wheels still look great.

  10. Stuck at work, and bored out of my freakin' mind. Anyone else stuck at work?

I feel your pain. I work for Magna Powertrain and make the transfer cases for the SS. There are 7 people here today. Just listening to the Syracuse Lacrosse Championship game. GO SU

  11. The CEL is not flashing. It flashed twise ovre the last two months, but only for about 15 - 15 seconds each time. the rest of the time the lite has been on steady. Once in a while it would go off for a day or two but come right back on. A friend tried to do the crankshaft variation learn with a Snap-On Modus. I don't think he was too familiar with the procedure. He took the rpm's to about 5600, til it hit the rev-limiter a few times but was afraid to do any more because he wasn't sure what he was doing and didn't want to ruin my truck. I replaced the solenoid and relocated the filter as per the bulliten but the P0446 code came back. I even got a new gas cap from the dealer but that didn't help either.

You said it was flashing, not is. Either way the crankshaft variation learn still needs to be done. That quite likely will fix the P0300. As for the P0446, what have you changed?
  12. All the cylinders show they are misfiring on the Modus. A friend tried to do the relearn but he wasn't familiar with the process. The CEL isn't flashing. What is the part for the P0446. I put a solenoid in and that didn't help.

I doubt you're having problems with your cats. A flashing CEL means you are having a missfire and a possible cat damaging condition. You need to have someone perform a crankshaft variation learn and then find out which cylinder is missfiring. As for the P0446, there is a bulliten for that. Check for bulliten # 02-06-04-037D. Part to fix it is 19152345 and follow instructions per the bulliten.
  13. I'll do that first. I had to pay for them back in June, but if they're bad they should be covered. The dealer will probably tell me they're ok. How will I know if they are telling the truth?

have your cats inspected again......they should be under warranty....
  14. The check engine lite came back on after the work I did over the weeked. I have two codes comming up. I'm working on the misfire problem first, then I'll tackle the canister. I don't know what to try next for the misfire. I may have to take it to a dealer.

That P0446 code kept showing up on my truck too, I think the roll over protection valve, in the gas tank, is stuck in the open position, When the tank is full of gas it floods out the vapier canister, So I don't fill my gas tank up anymore and the code hasn't come back. Also, I had the truck at the stealership three times for that code, After they replaced the vent solind and two vaper canstiers and a couple hose's, they still couldn't fix it. Try and not fill your tank and see what happens, But your vaper canstier still might be flooded and throw that code,
  15. I cleaned the MAF, there was some corrosion, but no oil residue. It seemed to be responding well on the Modus. I also cleaned the TB. It didn't seem too bad but I cleaned it anyway. I didn't remove it, just sprayed it. I also had a friend with a Modus try to do a crank relearn. He wasn't sure how to do it so I'm not sure if we gained anything. He reset the computer and so far the CEL hasn't come back on. I also threw some sea foam in the gas tank just for the hell of it. We'll see how things work out. I still have to work on the P0446 code and figure out why the mirrors won't adjust. I did all this Sunday AM and drove quite a bit Monday. Thanks everyone for the help.

I'm going to clean and check the MAF first. A friend of mine has a Modus, if the MAF doesn't fix the problem I'll have him do the relearn. I hope he knows how.

Really the best way to check them is to remove them and visually inspect them.

The re-learn you performed was a security re-learn, not a crank re-learn. AFAIK, a crank re-learn has to be done either with a Tech2 at the dealer or with a Snap-On Modus at an independant shop. Your cats are warrantied 8years/80k by federal mandate even though they were already replaced. Have the dealer check them again. I also still think that you may have a dirty or defective MAF.

  17. I had to do a relearn for the new PCM. It wouldn't run until I went through a procedure that took almost a half hour. Was that the same as the crank shaft variation relearn you are refering to.

Since you cant feel the misfire and all cylinders misfire counters are counting up Id try a crankshaft variation relearn procedure first. Did you have this done after the custom PCM install?

The P0446 relates to the vent portion of the evap system being blocked. You may have a plugged canister.
