BUYING A 2005 SIERRA DENALI AND I WANT SOMETHING DIFFERENT WITH THE EXHAUST AND I AM TOYING WITH THE IDEA OF MOUNTING 2 40 SERIES FLOWMASTERS IN THE SPARE TIRE LOCATION, AND THEN AN X PIPE IN ABOUT THE LOCATION OF THE STOCK MUFFLER OR FURTHER UP. MY THEORY IS IT WILL SOUND SIMILAR TO A CAMARO OR CORVETTE, GRANTED BECAUSE ITS A SIMILAR SET UP. ALSO GOING TO DO LONG TUBE HEADERS. I WANT TO TRY AND GET RID OF THE TRUCK SOUND.. WHAT REALLY MAKES THEM SOUND DIFFERENT IN SOUND ANYWAYS? I SEE VIDEOS WHERE GUYS DO THE LQ9 SWAP IN A CAMARO OR TRANS AM OR CORVETTE AND IT STILL SOUNDS LIKE A VETTE OR T/A WITH A TRUCK ENGINE IN IT. ANY INPUT APPRECIATED! THANK YOU

What do you mean by nothing out of p.e. mode?
As for the shifting, a simple servo swap would be a big improvement for that truck.
well we changed pe mode, the commanded fuel setting way out of whack like .50 and 1.20 just to get a reaction from the engine and never changed after zeroed out all the other parameters. like somethin else is keeping it from goin in

That is one of the key things to getting rid of the lag. You'll have your work cut out for you in tuning an 08' since there is quite a bit of work in getting it all tuned correctly with all of the new tables. If you use it all to your advantage there is alot to be gained with the E38 pcm trucks. If you do much work to it though do at least a servo upgrade if not a full shift kit to help the trans live. They are setup to shift very soft and smooth which is why there is so much torque management in them. Get rid of the upshift torque management and get rid of the smooth as glass shift.
zeroed out all those parameters and still nothing out of pe mode????

ya know whats weird is the damn thing shifts super hard in first and 2to 3 sometimes almost seems as if it slips sometimes... and tq management is pulled out of it, even when it was completely stock it was that way. any ideas on that ? im sure we can prolly tune it to make it work right but just wonderin if maybe that means somethin if its stock and acting that way.
-
Set it to zero.
Read this. Link
also can i ask ya do ya think thats where a guy is gonna get rid of that lag off the line on this 08??

gotcha i will do that! thank you for finding that.

Power enrichment is inconsistant and can have a terrible delay in the new trucks. Somewhere around here there is some info on it. Set the delay's to zero if you want to make sure it works right every time.
is there some hidden ones on the E38?? where should i set the map threshold? its at 15 kpa right now

yes they lack off the line very bad in stock form with stock tuning.
Tuning will help this, but of course it is not going to pull like a freight train with just tuning done only.
It will definatly help
What year is the truck and what engine?
any other ideas? does pe mode even activated in the 07 up silverado?? changed up all the enablers and got aggressive with the pe mode parameters and doesnt seem to be doing anything???

it is a 2008 silverado crew cab 4x4 3.73 gears. 5.3 flex. exhaust is only mod.

If you log the ETC or Pedal PIDs you will see they go to 100%.This is overlooked by most!!
GM interprets the SAE TPS PID as absolute voltage %
Hope this helps
yes that was the case with the throttle position. what do ya think on the dead spot off the line...? sounds pretty typical of factory tuning??
-
doin some tuning w a buddy of mine semi amatuer at the efi live, tryin to clean up the dead spot on wide open throttle from 0-20 roughly. seems as when you hit the gas from 1700 rpm to 2300 rpm it has no grunt per say "dead spot". have removed torque management, and most of the disablers like traction control... any ideas what to do to clean it up? also seems as if the throttle position only opens to 83% at wide open throttle at all speeds i would think it should 100% at some time but looking for some pointers there. timing seems to be at 20 degrees advanced between 1700-2300 rpm. any ideas thoughts appreciated thanks

Figure about 15-20hp and alot of gains in getting the trans tables tuned in.
dont you do tuning? i know i bought a shift kit from ya a while back. how much to get one done for my 08

I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A 2008 SILVERADO WITH 5.3 FLEX FUEL ENGINE. AND I WANT TO GET IT TUNED. WHAT KIND OF GAINS CAN I EXPECT? AND WHO??
-
I HAVE A 6.0 AND WANT TO KNOW IF E FANS OUT OF 05 1500 WILL BOLT ON A 2500HD WITH 6.0??

22ft.lbs id the correct torque. I have never installed them at TDC for each cylinder, never had a problem there and done ohh maybe 3 dozen truck swaps. Also the 918s are noisey so dont worry about the sewing machine noise its normal. 1-2 shift I wouldnt exceed 6200 2-3 about 6000 same with the 3-4. Also dont remove all the Torque Management and do not change the stock pressure tables.
so leave transmission pressure levels alone just let the truck adjust??. leave torque management on what percent would you say? and also what would be some basic thing to work on for tuning with that cam? pe mode by rpm is all we have been messin with....
-
safe RPM i would say dont pass 6200 rpm. The noise you here are probable the 918's....i hope you put the rockers back on correct. cylinder at TDC for each pair of rockers.
that's kinda what im curious about cuz we just had installed them and torqued em to 30 ft lbs with no rotation of engine. so maybe one is a lil loose makin noise?? its very light noise tho
-
what else did you install with the cam? roller rockers? headers? the only real way to determine maximum RPM would be to put it on a dyno to see where she makes power
well i guess max safe rpm?? what can i spin it to regardless of power and just pushrods 7.4 and comp 918 springs. thats all

I HAVE RECENTLY INSTALLED A COMP CAM 581. LIFT 220/224 DURATION 112 LSA +2 IN MY 2006 GMC SIERRA 2500HD 6.0L LQ4 THE TRUCK HAS 4L80E TRANS AND 4:10 GEARS AND 4 INCH LIFT WITH 33X12.50 TIRES AND IS A CREW CAB SO IT IS KINDA HEAVY. I WAS CURIOUS WHAT WOULD BE RECOMMENDED MAXIMUM RPM WITH THIS SET UP AND WHAT KIND OF NOISE IS CONSIDERED NORMAL?? I WOULD SAY I HEAR THE "SEWING MACHINE" SOUND PLUS A LIGHT TICK AS WELL?? ALSO I HAVE A FRIEND AND WE ARE TRYING TO LEARN HOW TO TUNE THIS THING AS WELL HE HAS EFILIVE AND IS A GM TECH SO WE HAVE MOST OF THE KNOWLEDGE FIGURED OUT BUT WANTING TO KNOW WHAT PARAMETERS TO ADJUST PRIMARILY. THANK YOU!!

You were able to run this cam on the stock tune without any studder issues or idle issues / stalling?
yeah it idled rough and what not but still managed, but the power was about the same as stock maybe a lil doggier but pretty close.
-
whats ur cam specs? yes u need to tune it with a cam and that will wake it up. not to extreme measures depending on the size but the truck will need to allow the cam to do its thing with a tune
220/224 581. 112 lsa. in a 06 sierra 2500hd 6.0 4.10 gears 4 inch lift 33 inch tire crew cab.

well got the cam installed all went well. truck definitely has the sewing machine sound which i suppose is normal. i have not had it tuned yet which i plan to have done by this weekend, but im curious on stock tuning i have not noticed any difference in power, is that to be expected without tuning? i would guess that tuning it will completely bring the engine/cam to life???
-
I wouldn't go more than a 112LSA for any truck that is used as a truck. It's hard enough on the 6.0L that you put about 3" more tire to it without changing the gear. Look into something like this for a mild duration on a 112LSA. It will idle a bit choppy, but shouldn't have much problem making enough torque to tow without downshifting all the time. Use like a 918 or similar spring with it.

I think their kits are fine. If you buy it, get the 220.
cant a guy just use wooden dowels to hold the lifters up??
-
Just to add another choice to the mix...Hotrod Magazing did a test on a 6.0 with 5 different cams and the Crane Zcam in 210/218 had the best under the curve hp and tq and it was by far the smallest cam in the test. It was beat by the largest cam after 5900 rpms. I'm going to try this cam in my truck soon and see.
u have a link to it?
