  1. let us know what you find....

Will do. I'm getting my inspection Mon or Tuesday. Since it will be 13 months until the next one, I may throw on some long-tubes....always wanted headers. If I do go the header route, would you guys recommend running no cats (until next inspection) or going ahead and installing new ones behind the headers?

  2. Fireman, yes original cats.

KC, somewhat of a contradiction, but also both. It is a very small rattle that produces a cricket chirping noise. :dunno:

Mid morning update....I was driving down the same bumpy street, hardly a peep from under the truck. Ran into a body shop buddy of mine and got his 2 cents. He suggested hangers on my exhaust. That would make sense because IMO they would have more play hot (last night - long drive - hot exhaust - very loud noise) as opposed to this morning (short drive - cool exhaust - no noise).

FWIW I'm dumped right behind my magnaflow.

Fireman, are you thinking I should replace the cats, or is there some way I can A&M them to quiet them down.

    Thanks guys

  3. Morning guys,

Here's the skinny. VHO, 138K miles, stock rims. New shocks 20K ago, new front bearing assembly 5K ago.

I've had this annoying rattle coming from under the truck for quite some time now, sounds like crickets chirping, had it even before the front bearing swap. I've hit the lugs with silicone lube, but no go. I can't hear anything over 30mph due to the magnaflow, but around town it's really noisy (especially on the sh*t streets in my little town).

The noise does not slow down as I slow down, so I've ruled out anything transmission or bearing wise, I'm suspecting suspension or lugs.

Any experience with this? Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

  4. While replacing the stock plastic air-tube from my AIRAID filter to the throttle body, I decided to clean out my FILTHY throttle housing. I used a rubber coated clamp to hold the valve open, sprayed around the inside of the housing, and wiped it out carefully. THICK ass sludge. Anyways, I hopped in and tried to start it (with the valve still clamped open), no go. Tried to start it 2 more times and finally remembered that I had the valve open (and the tube from my MAF/AIRAID not connected).

Hooked it all up, started right up, but not the engine light was on. F*CK. Drove it for 10 min (4" pipe allows much more flow than stock), got back into my driveway and wondered what to do about the light. Disconnect battery, reconnected - no luck. Next, unplugged the sensor to the MAF, plugged it back in and viola' no more light.

    Just thought I would share.

  5. Jack up the front of the truck and push the wheel in and out to check for play. If there is, the wheel bearings are shot and you are gonna need the whole assembly which comes with a sensor. Check the wires and connections for the sensors too. Even if the sensor is bad, you can't just buy one and replace it. You would have to buy the whole hub assembly anyway.

Yep, that was the problem. Driver side wheel had about 2" of play in it, pass. side about an inch. Decided not to drive it this weekend and left it at the shop. For you VHO owners. Parts guy said that a std. assembly does not exist for our 20's. There is a special one JUST for the VHO. (Not sure if this applies to the SSS b/c of the AWD).

List on it is around $500 ea. Supposed to pick it up on Monday (my birthday). Happy Birthday to me! LOL

Have a good weekend guys, and thanks for everyone's input.

  6. Usually the ABS light is either a bad sensor or the hub itself. Is there any play in either of the front wheels?

None that I can feel. After tearing up the internet, and speaking to my mechanic, 90% odds that it is the sensor. Granted, I have 135K on my truck, but it has run like a top since the day I got it. Another thing, it has been making a little rattling noise (for about a week). Kind of sounds like a sqeaky lug.....could be the hub, or loose sensor. It's been raining cats and dogs here, so I'm gonna get it checked today. Better safe than sorry. Keep y'all posted.

    Thanks,

  7. Morning and TGIF,

Was driving to work, doing about 70 and the ABS & TC lights came on at the same time on the inst. panel. Got to a side street, and lit them up, so TC is definitely off. Brakes just fine. Actually, since it's wet, I should have locked them up to see if the ABS is working....may do that in a few minutes.

Has anyone had this problem? Thanks in advance for your help.

  8. Just noticed this a few weeks ago. When turning off the truck, the stereo plays until I open the door (then turns off like it is supposed to do), but lately, it has continued to play even after closing the door, locking it with the remote key. A few nights ago, I noticed that the dash lights were on after getting out and locking the truck. I had to turn the key on/off a few times until they went off for good. Have any of you guys had this same issue??

  9. 05 Black Chevy VHO. Bought it in Bastrop Texas. May of 05. It's an LT w/ cloth interior. There was a Black Leather GMC on the showroom floor in La., but since this is a company truck, I didn't want to push my luck. Got 121K on it and running like a top. Only issues I've had are broken CD player, and bearing failure on my A/C unit pulley. Only synthetic oil and 93+ octane gas. Need to post some recent pix. Put twin 6.0 stickers in front of the front tires, just above the bumper wrap, and an Aussie Holden 6.0 badge on the tailgate.

  10.

13 years for me  was easy for me. after being a HEAVY drinker most of my life, i was turning into someone i did not like, in myself and in other people. a nasty DRUNK..against family, friends, anyone who got in my way. so one day i just said F**k it and quit. best thing i have ever done..

now if i can quite smoking that easy, i would be a lot better off...

    good luck

    :seeya:

  11. I was dead set on an Avalanche, but I read a letter to the editor in 'Sport Truck' magazine that made reference to a 'sleeper' Silverado. It took about 10 days of tearing the internet apart before I found those 3 magical symbols: B4V

I emailed a handful of dealers around Texas, told them what I was looking for, and that if they didn't know what I was talking about, not to bother wasting my time. I got a response from Covert in Bastrop, picked it up May of 2005. Now has 101K, life avg. gas mileage of 16.7. I do almost exclusively highway (back-road) driving. What a dream ride we have gentlemen!

  12. Heading home the other night 1431 north of Round Rock. Two lane, 65 speedlimit, and a light here and there. Some kid pulls up next to me with his c(rap) blaring, all his window down and gives me a rev. I punched my fun (TC) button and stalled to about 2K. Light goes green and he got a small jump while I was turning them over. Caught him at 30, walked up to 70 with about 1 length on him. I back off, and he keeps on running. The thought crossed my mind since we were essentially in the middle of nowhere, but I didn't (thank goodness - keep reading).

About 2 minutes later Wilco Sheriff's dept comes FLYING by me and running up on him. Saw them pulled over at the highway intersection ahead. Better him than me!

Taken a few hemi trucks, but this was my first 300. Sure wont be the last.

    Happy, safe 4th to everyone!

  13. hey guys just got back from oklahoma where my cousin tyler, some of you might know him by dirt_track_racer81 on performancetrucks.net, anyways i went from 260 rwhp to 382.5 rwhp and i love it, it sounds amazing he did an awesome job on the tune which took forever by the way. but im very happy with it. just wanted to share, oh and as soon as i can get my stupid camera to work i will definitly post some sound clips i think yall are gunna like it too.

You got that jump in hp w/ cam alone???

  14. Good Kill! I'm in the same position as you, small town and lots of people wanting to run. I might go 1 out of 10 times, but I killed a SRT-10 in my VHO a few months ago (check earlier posts) because the guy behind the wheel didn't know how to handle the power. The reg. cabs are all stick and the guy I was racing didnt throw it into second very quick, so I surged on him. Some clown in a hemi durango was giving the business at a stoplight yesterday, and instead of running to 110 or 120, I stomped his ass to about 65, and backed off. Next light he didn't even look over at me - must have heard me laughing my ass off. Be careful out there and have a Merry Christmas!

  15. I was hellbent on getting an Avalanche, even joined their forum site. After putting 240K on my 95 5.7 Silverado, I decided to stick with Chevy....after all, Ford and Dodge are........well......ford and dodge. Anyways, I had a subscription to Sport Truck Magazine, and some guy wrote in to the editors blasting them about not covering this sleeper Chevy (the VHO or B4V option package). I scoured the internet for about a week, and FINALLY found the option code. I emailed a few dealers, told them what I wanted, and explained that if they didn't know what I was talking about, to not bother getting back with me. Two dealerships came back with located VHO's. One was a black/black leather GMC on a showroom floor somewhere in La., the second one black/cloth LS in Dallas. Since this is a company truck, I decided not to push my luck and took the cloth LS. I figure, what the f*ck, I'm 40, single, and like smoking people....this is the truck for me!
