  1. mine does this too, I have the big three upgrade on my alternator wires.

Any electric motor you try to run and it is not able to spin b/c the windows are up is going to be a draw.

these trucks did not have the biggest alternator, the escalades had bigger alternators and dual batteries. both of those parts can be added to the SSS

Even with my addition of the 145 amp alternator, it still does it. Those must be some powerful window motors!

Edit: I also have an Optima Yellow Top battery.

Edit #2: I misread the first post. You're saying the windows are already up when you do this. I was referring to rolling both of them up together. Even that dims the lights a bit.

  2. Your lucky Hank! Even though I can understand the delays are a pain but trains and trucks are my life and hobbies. I was supposed to test drive brand new multi million dollar locomotives right out of the shop for Union Pacific, now lets try fitting one of those turbo's into our trucks:jester:

I wonder how the Acela was affected? Thats the only thing keeping Amtrak alive.

The Acela runs on the same tracks as our NJT, and the regular Amtrak. Everything was normal at 5:00PM.

the big thing is the geology difference between the east and west cost, is why you only felt a very little. in LA. a 5.7 would have done a lot more damage then just some buildings shaking a bit..now where i live we don't get the shakers, we get the rollers. we had a 6.5 hit some years ago about 8 mi. from the house, and you could see the the valley floor roll like waves as it went across. the coolest part was seeing the mountain range 20 mi away float up and down..

I saw a geologist on TV explaining why it was felt so widely on the east coast. Because of all the faults on the west coast, smaller pieces of the earth's plates move. In the east, the plate is basically all one piece, so the whole thing was moving. Frightening how powerful Mother Nature is. Next up? Hurricane Irene this weekend!

  3. No, that is why a real earthquake would be so devastating out here. Amtrak has all trains on the NorthEast Corridor running at restricted limits which barely occurs maybe once a year during a blizzard.

I ride the Northeast Corridor on New Jersey Transit from NYC to Trenton NJ everyday. Ask us commuters... they run restricted speeds every day!

  4. We felt it in midtown Manhattan. My office chair was moving around, and the walls were creaking. I had never felt an earthquake before. I hope it's the last one.

Edit: I'm on the 5th floor of a 10 story building. I'd hate to have been in one of the skyscrapers.

  5. If I were to do it all over I would go back to stock (or just slotted) and use the SS brake lines...

I'm guessing by SS you're referring to Stainless Steel brake lines, not the stock "Silverado SS" brake lines. I installed the Earl's Stainless Steel lines, when they were still available, and that was a good improvement over stock. I think Russell is one brand that still has the lines available for our trucks.

  6. dont mean to steal your style but were can I get an emblem for my steering wheel as well?

I don't think gluing an emblem to the existing wheel would work very well. There's no indent for it to go into. 04Chase was selling an air bag replacement with this emblem. Maybe you could shoot him a PM to see if he is still selling them.

  7. I have some postings in the Brake section of the forum on my Baer setup, including some part numbers. I have all the part numbers listed in "MyGarage" as well. The Baer setup can be pricey, but so are a lot of the high performance setups. Read up on any of the choices that interest you to get a good idea. Good luck with your search.
