hirdlej Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 Please tell me if this is a good deal or not. I have access to a set of new take off SS rims (painted silver) with tires. Set has less than 100 miles of wear and is perfect. The guy wants $1,300 cash for everything. Is this a good deal? Rip-off? I think he's too high, shoudn't it be more around $1,000-1,100? I can't find anything like this in the for sale forum to compare (especially with low miles) like this set. What do you guys think? I need reply's by tommorrow (going out of town for work and to where the wheels are located). I think they'd be a nice upgrade to my RCSB black truck. This is going to hurt a lot spending this much money. Why are 20" wheels so expensive? They can't cost that much more than 16's to make. And besides, I can buy new take off sets all day long for $800. SS rims are $500 more than the New take off regular wheels for some reason? Give me some input dudes Joe
haynss Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 for basically brand new thats not a real high price IMO. However they are still "used", tell $1150 Cash, chances are he already has his other wheels and just wants the money from his stockers.
cstchevy Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 you can buy centerline 20's for cheaper, jsut go check out their website. I have seen SS wheels go from $800-1600.
hirdlej Posted January 4, 2005 Author Report Posted January 4, 2005 Just remember, these are new take offs and there aren't anymore than 100 miles on the Eagle LS stockers. I figure the tires are worth almost $4-600 alone. This guy was asking $1350 and has no takers. We got to talking and I explained to him that I didn't have much money. He asked if I had anything to trade and I got to thinking of parts on the shelf. I told him I have a new in the box Escort ZR-3 Laser Jammer that's never been installed (worth $500). and he said he'd take that and $1,000 cash for trade. I've been doing all my talking back and forth with this guy for a couple of days and tomorrow i'm going to be going by his business. I don't want to trade my laser jammer in (wanted to install it this spring when it's warmer) but I'd love to have those wheels. Why do these damn things seem so unattainable? i wonder if I should just go withdraw $1100 from the bank and walk in there and wave it in his face. If he doesn't bite, walk out. This guy is local so i don't have to pay for shipping. I'm wondering if I should just clear my head of this deal. I'm going to end up a dead man if my girlfriend finds out how much they're worth or paid. My finances are being watched closely by her since we're trying to save for a house/marriage/ring. Oh how wanting mods and not being able to afford them makes me :tear: Just how do you guys do it? With radix's and corsa's and rims and other fun stuff? Enough ranting. Maybe I should go in there with $1,100 and offer cash. If he doesn't bite walk out.
BenKey Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 I sold my takeoffs for $1100 with no tires and about 10k miles and were not 100% blemish free. So...it sounds like a good deal to me. Other wheels look better than a SS, unless you just want the whole appearance pkg.
quickmedic1 Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 I would keep the laser jammer and offer him $11-$1200. In fairness to him most painted SS wheels are going for around $800 + shipping. Then the tires are $135-$180 each + mount and balance. Plus shipping if you get them online. I put my factory ones in the boxes my reproduction wheels came in and saved them. My reproduction SS wheels cost me $1300 alone. I have seen at some of my local parts events here in Pa new American Racing chrome wheels and Goodyear tires for $1600 carry out, already mounted. Be patient! If he won't deal on these there will be others to choose from. Good luck.
r8rs4lf Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 I only want $1400.00 for my CHROME ones. If I were you, I would buy mine instead and get all the chicks with the bling, bling....... Such a cheesy hi-jack, I know! Late- Alex
hirdlej Posted January 5, 2005 Author Report Posted January 5, 2005 These are just what I want, not chromed They're the silver ones. I have the 16" steel chrome wheels on now and they're a tad too much "bling" if you ask me. For christ sake on a summer day all I see is reflections flickering on everything I drive by and it's the sun shining off my wheels. I've probably put drivers in the ditch over how much they reflect ;) I may just offer him $1200 (he's asking 1350 like I said). If he doesn't bite, I agree with quickmedic that there'll probably be others. I'll report back tomorrow and let you guys know if I got 'em. I'll have to hide them at my brothers house until I take my truck out of storage in a couple of months. Then when it comes time to putting them on, I'll get some pics. Now being these are stock size SS rims, these are going to fit ok on my RCSB 2wd truck right? Will there be plenty of room between the tires and the frame when the steering wheel is on either lock? Also if I want to go wider yet, will there be room? I love those big steamroller tires on those 8.5" wide rims Joe
hirdlej Posted January 5, 2005 Author Report Posted January 5, 2005 Just talked to the guy again, the he's standing firm on $1,250. Think this is good yet? Fair? High? Just seems like the bastard won't budge
jharnish Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 My stock rims without tires sold on EBay for $900.
haynss Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 Just talked to the guy again, the he's standing firm on $1,250. Think this is good yet? Fair? High? Just seems like the bastard won't budge <{POST_SNAPBACK}> you got him down from 1300, give him a day and give him 1200, or if you really want them bad do the 1250, id probably do the 1250 as im impatient as hell.
ChevySSandChevy8.1 Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 It actually sounds like a fair deal, considering its got tires and all, I say go for it.
hirdlej Posted January 6, 2005 Author Report Posted January 6, 2005 I'm going to buy them for $1250. I'll be picking them up tomorrow. I've never seen a set of these wheels in person or on a truck until today for the first time. All I can say is HOLY SNICKEYS are these things HUGE! I hope they don't take away from performance too much on my truck. Remember, these are going to be going on my RCSB 2wd truck with a 4.8 and 5 speed. I have the 3.73 gears so hopefully those will help in my take off with these wheels. According to a tire calc I found using google my stockers are 29.87 inches tall and the SS tires are 31.90 inches tall. Anyone have any ideas how this'll affect my takeoff? Gas mileage? Also, how do the stock goodyears go down the road? Do you think with tires this wide my truck is going to tend to wander side to side and follow all the grooves in the road? Thanks again guys for all your knowledge and help Joe
Big O Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 Good luck with the tires and the old lady !!! I know you'll like the wheels .... as much excitement you are showing through the board ... you will love them. Good job!
