Jim7 Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 I keep reading on here that our transfer cases are NOT servicable... I had the vicous coupling repalced by the dealer because they though that was my growling front end problem.... (It wasn't) my question is did I get screwed??? should they do that or should they have replaced the whole TC with a new one??also if they should of just replaced the TC where does it say that in writting???? Jim
PewterC3 Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 I think the transfer case is serviceable...it's the viscous coupling that isn't. NVG has to calibrate them.
Jim7 Posted January 9, 2005 Author Report Posted January 9, 2005 What is NVG and calabrate????Who do they do that??? I saw the one that can out of my truck It looked like a big bearing all sealed???
Jim7 Posted January 9, 2005 Author Report Posted January 9, 2005 How do they do that .....(calabrate the VC)sorry cant type
PewterC3 Posted January 9, 2005 Report Posted January 9, 2005 "NVG" is New Venture Gear...the people that make the transfer case for GM. Although the gears, seals, etc. are serviceable....the Viscous Coupling (Item #44) is non field serviceable as NVG has to calibrate the 38/62% bias for the coupling. NVG-149 view
zippy Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 if you know nothing about the transfercase then you're asking a question that still isn't going to make you understand the part. as for having something in writing for them replacing the whole thing, there is nothing. it is up to the dealer and gm as to what gets replaced under warrenty. they don't just replace parts because you want them to.
edessa Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Jim, did you get the front end noise fixed yet? Hope your dealer did not give you any crap after he saw the copy of the work order. See you around Cleveland, John.
Jim7 Posted January 10, 2005 Author Report Posted January 10, 2005 Zippy as for GM giving me parts cause I want them I think I'm bright enought to know the answer....My qustion was did my dealer do the right thing when they repalced my vicious coupling....(that part is not sevicable at the dealer only by NVG) my question for pewter was this a legal move by my dealer.....and he has been kind enough to send me an amswer....and edessa I have not had a chance with the holidays to get all my info together and get to the dealer...planning on it tomm..... I'll let you know how it goes..... Jim
