I have my ss in storage right now and driving our work truck which has the base GM radio no tape or cd. I found a GM radio out of a 2005 tahoe with cd and everything. I was talking to one of my budies at the chevy dealership and he said you can't just drop the new cd player in beasue on the upgraded radios GM has much more feathers run throguht the radio. Dose anyone have a way around this.

the only problem is the security issue. they have the vin burned in them and most of the time they won't work after a swap.

Zippy I heard that you can get them reprogramed at the dealership but is that even true if the vin numbers are coded into the radios.

Good Question. I was told the same thing before I bought a 6-Disc GM.

Zippy, can you verify if they can be reprogrammed at the dearship?

Picked it up on e-bay for $125. I haven't installed it yet cause I'm waiting to get the i-pod interface and do it all at once.

I heard that there was a security theft lock that once the radio is removed it has to be reprogrammed before it can be used again, and the reprogrammign can only be done by some dealers, I know some other car companies require a code before the stereo can be used again.

I was just searching the web and I cam accross this GMRC-01 it gives a little description:

Class 2 data buss adapter for GM cars with Door chime and other stuff built into the factory radio, this device allows installation of an aftermarket radio with no problems and no need to relocate the old factory radio.

Is this the type of modual I would need to hook up to the new GM radio it allow other functions such as the door chime and things like that to work with the radio.
