Might not be the same thing but a couple years ago they had a brake recall with the 1/2 ton trucks. It was a steel brake line running up the drivers frame rail just in front of the drivers door. It was becasue of a rubbing contact problem.

GM Recalls Over 98,000 Trucks for Steering, Braking Problems

Tuesday, January 11, 2005

DETROIT — General Motors Corp. (GM) is recalling more than 98,000 pickups, vans and sport utility vehicles because of a potential problem with their power steering and braking systems, federal safety regulators said on Tuesday.

An advisory on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (search) said the problem — which can hamper but not eliminate the ability to stop or steer the vehicles — stems from fractures in their hydraulic pump driveshafts.

Vehicles affected by the recall are from the 2000 model year and include Chevrolet C/K and Silverado pickups and Suburban SUVs. GMC Savana vans are also affected, along with GMC Sierra pickups and Yukon XL SUVs.

GM was hit with numerous vehicle safety recalls last year and Tuesday's announcement, another blow to its recent claims of improved quality, came as it was playing host in Detroit to the North American International Auto Show

Thanks guys.... now if I can only get my tailgate cables and steering intermediate shaft replaced!

Were these a recall fix or a dealer discretion deal?? I haven't even called about them yet, procrastination is my weak area! :banghead:

Tailgate cables are a safety recall. You should have no problem getting

the dealer to fix these. They probably have a bunch in stock.

Steering shaft is not a recall, just a TSB to install a "lube kit" which I had

done. Dealer doesn't sound like they are willing to replace the shaft unless

the problem reoccurs or GM issues a recall. My dealer said check back

from time to time as GM may issue a recall at some point.

FYI my neighbor had his 2000 1500's intermediate shaft lubed 3 years ago

and the clunk never reoccurred.

Did you hear the latest ad slogan from the men in the blue oval?

It's something like... "Have you burned up in a Ford Lately?"
