A couple rattles inside the cab.

I've had my SS for a couple of weeks now and have noticed a few rattles inside. I live in a small residential town, but my parents live about 3 miles out of town on the dirt roads. I hate driving on dirt roads, but if I want to see them, I gotta go that way. I have about a max speed of 20 MPH on there, so this allows me to hear any unusual noises on the way there. I had 3 rattles and have eliminated one of them.

1. On the passenger side, the 3rd door. The latch at the top which hooks on the latch in the door jam. It was loose once the door was closed, so I wrapped the latch a few times with black electrical tape and it was gone. It increased the diameter a little and tightened things up a little. No more rattles there.

2. At low RPM's such as 500- 1500 rpms, I think it may be from the resonance of the exhaust engine, but I hear a small vibration. It sounds like it is from the bottom of the dash, where you hook the computer up to the link. To most people you can not hear it, I'm sure. But for me, turn off the radio and turn off the heater and I want it to be quit. No rattles or vibrations. I can press on the bottom of the panel right about the hook up and it stops.

3. The driver side dash, right below the tweeter makes a little noise if my truck is cold. Like below freezing outside. Once I'm in there for 10 mins or so and it's good and warm, it stops. Any ideas on how to fix this????

My only concern is that if I start to pull off trim and door panels or whatever, I might incrase the level of noise my making things even looser. Any ideas on easy fixes for these problems?

I was thinking maybe placing weather stripping inside whatever was making noise, or maybe even some of that spray foam for filling cracks. Who knows.

You can tap the latch pin on the 3rd door w/ a hammer and set it better. That eliminated the problem for me. My dash rattles as well, this spring i'm going to take it appart to and look into it. Possibly paint it.

I've got my main noise narrowed down a little more. I am almost 90% sure that the noise is coming from up under the dash, around the harness of wires that is really close to the vent under there. I can push that harness a little and it stops. I tried a zip tie and it didn't work. Here's how I can make it make that noise. Put the truck in drive with it running. Step on the brake and throttle it a bit to where the tach is right at 1000RPM. One there will it make that noise. To me, it almost sounds mechanical. For example, it reminds me of a tiny relax that is clicking super fast and it will almost always do it at that rpm.

I don't know whether to take it to a dealer and have it looked at, or if they will just laugh at me. Should I try to get under there and try some more things to make it stop? I ****ed with it for about an hour and thought I had it with the zip tie, but it was right back. I get in to go home and my XM radio says no signal. it did start working, but man, I thought I screwed something up. Any suggestions? Anyone else hear this noise??

I have had my interior panels off more than one time and I can tell you that it won't add to the present squeaks and rattles I have now. I would think if you take one panel off at a time and drive it around a little and see if the noise stops. If it does you found your problem panel and when you put it back in place look for any rubbing on the metal frame. Possibly some double sided tape or velcro would help or maybe a dab of silicone here and there.

:withstupid: good idea and dynamat is also a great noise dampener

( especially when you have aftermarket subs)

I called a local Chevy dealer and described the noise to him. He said that it could be something electrical underneath the dash, AND that they'd be HAPPY to take a look at it. I was surprised. I'll also ask about the AWD turning noise. Hope they fix it so I won't have to. They said to bring it in Monday, so that'll save me from tearing into it a few hours this weekend.
