2003SilvSS Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 I have a few chips that I'd like to fix. Can I do this myself with a small bottle of touch up paint? If so, where do I get something like that? Thanks in advance. Brian
ChevySSandChevy8.1 Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 touch up paint will help hide the rock chips, but for larger stuff and its quite noticeable i find if your up close. But touch up paint can be sold at the dealer, they always have it available there, they are not expensive at all. Auto parts stores usually have them, but they might not have your GM color exactly.
2003SilvSS Posted January 19, 2005 Author Report Posted January 19, 2005 I have 2 places on the drivers door that I want to cover. The spots are very small, maybe the size of the head of a sewing pin. Think it'll work okay for that? Brian What if I cover the spots with the paint, then knock it down a little with polishing compound and wax it a few times afterwards?
ChevySSandChevy8.1 Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 Brian, for those smaller chips the touchup paint will do fine, just remember not to apply too much or else it becomes blotchy. It always helps to wax it down and use some ding and swirl remover as it fills in a little better and if you buff it down it looks pretty good. Good luck with the repair
misterp Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 I just bought a bottle at the dealer - paint code 41U if I remember right (black) and cost was $6.75 out the door. Doing it right takes a bit of mastery... Mr. P.
