NateZ Posted January 23, 2005 Report Posted January 23, 2005 Had bryan firm up my shifts when he did my tune, 2-3 is great, but 1-2 is really slugish at WOT. At part throttle shifting, it's perfect. Bryan said he can't bump the line pressure up anymore for fear of breakage, so am i going to need a shift kit or servo or somthing like that.. or is there somthing wrong with my tranny? I don't want the thing to bang into gears, i just don't want it to do what it's doing now. On my last log, it shifted at 5998 rpm, and did hook back up until 3796 rpm, then my 2-3 shift will come up, and it goes right into gear like i would expect. It did do it before i had the whipple. Really wasn't planning on doin any tranny stuff since i won't be putting too much more power to it. Your guys opinions? Nate
RacerJJ Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Mine did that too after I got my PCM from Bryan. I am doing shift kit, servo's, and converter and am having Bryan take out the line pressure program. I have heard and read that that is the better way to go anyway. Good Luck!
mcwarren Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 I had similar issues after the installatin of my MagnaCharger Radix,....firm part trottle 1-2 with sloppy 1-2 at WOT...I just this weekend installed a Transgo shift kit purchased from JAG Performance...what a difference...I loved this truck before this mod and love it even more now...Joe and JAG performance are great....his cell number was on the inside of the box that the shift kit came in with instructions from order desk to call him at "any time" with any questions. I was able to get it done without bothering him, but it was great to know that he was there if I needed him. Go for the shift kit, and I highly recommend JAG Performance it makes all the difference...
NateZ Posted January 24, 2005 Author Report Posted January 24, 2005 So do i have to get a servo and shift kit? or can i just do the shift kit? or? Nate
BenKey Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 So do i have to get a servo and shift kit? or can i just do the shift kit? or? Nate <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can go with just a shift kit, but with a servo change-out, you'll get even better shift performance. Billet servos will cause the neck snapping "Zippy shift" and a corvette servo will cause a slightly less firm shift. I would do at least a corvette servo. Personally, I think billet servos are a little much stress on the tranny when combined with a supercharger, but that is mostly personal preference and very little data to support it causes much detriment to the tranny.
RacerJJ Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Nate, you can do whatever you want! I'll let you know next week how the billet/shift kit/converter combo does. I've heard that it is great.
NateZ Posted January 24, 2005 Author Report Posted January 24, 2005 Sounds like the billet servo would be way more than i want. I don't want it to be snappin into gears, just better than what it's doin 1-2 wot. I went on jag's site, and it says that the transgo kit comes with a corvette servo? If not, if i just do the kit and not the servo, will i see improvement or is the servo really needed along with it? Nate
RacerJJ Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 I think you'll be happy with just the kit. I am doing both because I am NA...With your Whipple, I think you will be more than satisfied with just the kit. I would get the Transgo HD2 if I were you.

383ss Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 I'm having the exact same problem with the 1-2. it takes about a full second according to my Gtech. 2-3 takes about .5 seconds. I plan on doing a shift kit, servo's and billet accum piston. that along with my 3000 stall should be a hell of an improvement.
BenKey Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 I have the Transgo HD and corvette servo. The combo is awesome. Nothing says you have to do kit and servos, but to get the tightest shift, it is recommended. I don't like neck snapping shifts that much. I don't have that with my combo. There is some shift firmness adjustability in the transgo kit, so adding a corvette servo won't necessarily add more shift harshness. At least with a corvette servo. If you add a stall later, it will soften it up more.
Dylan06SS Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 watch what you say all this talk about shifts being "too harsh" is going to make zippy cry

BenKey Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Having only added the HD kit, not sure. Last truck had a B&M kit. Stay away from those.
