2003SilvSS Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 What is the top speed of a 2002 Chevy Tahoe Z71 Package? I know typically it's 98 with the fuel cut off? Brian
2003SilvSS Posted January 26, 2005 Author Report Posted January 26, 2005 Someone? I got in an argument this morning with a lady here at work who never thinks she is wrong. She told me that she's had her Tahoe well above 98 mph before. I've been in several GM vehicles before and unless it is a special edition, they've always shut down at 98 mph. With the Z71 package on the Tahoe, do they change the settings in the PCM to allow for >98 mph? Brian
jchitwo Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 Your right it is about 98.... That long drive from phoenix to vegas and it wont let me go any faster....
PewterC3 Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 doesn't it have something to do with the speed rating of the tires? So it could be like 106 or 108? sorry...haven't topped out the wife's new Yukon yet!
black03zr5 Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 My parents '01 topped out at 98. But the speed rating on the tires, can mean the truck could be different. However, my guess is the tires on a z71 would have a lower speed rating or the same than the normal tahoe, meaning it would be the same cut off speed.
CoolBlueSS Posted January 26, 2005 Report Posted January 26, 2005 You can't really go by speed rating on the tires. We had a Bonneville SSEi that a Z rated tire was stock, but the cutoff on it was 125.

The SS top speed was 108 or so from the factory, but there are many members here who've had their much faster too!
standby Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 My VHO cuts off at 98, the wife's Yukon Denali shuts off at 106. How much sense does that make? She and I were "playing" on the interstate the other day and as for acceleration, I was walking her pretty hard (up to 98 anyway) but she would catch me due to the shutoff I have to call Bryan at pcmforless! Back to the point: Why would the Denali (lq4) shut off at 106-108 and the VHO (lq9) shut off at 98? The Denali is heavier, has 17in tires (not a performance tire) sits higher and doesn't handle as well as the VHO. Same gears but Denalis is AWD. Someone please help me find the logic in this. Zippy....
zippy Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 the vho is a standard truck leaving the factory with gm accessory wheels. it is programmed for the speed rating of the tires that would normally come on a standard silverado. it's just all the more reason to have better programming installed.

standby Posted January 27, 2005 Report Posted January 27, 2005 D@mn, guys that is the same thing she said. I come to this site to get moral support and this is how I'm treated I'm just not feeling the love. No complaints though, just proud to have a wife that will race. Now if I could only convince her to let me spend the cost difference in our vehicles on my truck. $20k in power adders should make a pretty quick truck, huh? She don't see it that way!
