Header/Cam ???

Have an 03 reg cab 5.3 4X4. Would like to know what (size/company) cam to get without having to go with a stall, and changing valve springs if possible. Also would like to know what headers to get? Thanks for the help!!

You won't get very much of a cam staying with the stock valve springs, IMO. A set of Comp 918s are only about $140 and can handle .600" of lift.

Ok....How about changing valve springs, and no stall? Or, would I be best keeping stock cam??? If this engine was 35 years older, I wouldn't have a problem setting up the motor. Its just a little too new.

 

P.S. Is there any power to gain in Mass Air Sensors?

A mass air sensor is a waste of money. You should be looking at a stall converter before a cam. As the converter is a really nice mod to do in a 5.3l. It provides a significat gain with the 5.3l's lazy bottom end. Also just programming can be woth a half second. I would look into these mods first along with a shhift kit.

for cam i recomend the XR265HR. as for the converter issue, the stock converter isn't good enough for the stock cam let alone a bigger cam. going with programming, a shift kit, and a converter would probably be a solid .7 or so in the quarter without ever touching the cam. adding the cam to that would be about another .3. ben is also right, no cam changing with the stock valve springs. they are a must to change.

Zippy what converter, tuning, and shift kit do you recommend to install for that .7 seconds in a quarter? Can I tow a 5000 lb package with a Trailblazer converter?
