Squires Turbo System

Recommended Posts

I just got my SS back in Febuary, and haven't done any mods to the engine and plan on getting a supercharger . I was wondering what the best supercharger for my truck would be (recommendations), what about the STS (good or bad?) I was thinking about the STS in particular but have flowmaster turn downs before the axle and thought that they may be in the way of the STS. Thanks for your replys!

I'd say if you plan on "Just" having a 500+ horsepower truck, then go Radix, But if you plan on just going balls to the wall power get the STS or the ATI procharger!!

Either way you're going to need a hammer and a chisle to get the smile off of your face!! :D:thumbs:

I plan on having the truck for awhile and its just a everyday driving vehicle (school, work etc.) I just need a good turbo that isn't harsh on the engine, last awhile, and of course compete well. Also is it really true that the superchargers can give you 2-4mpg increase. How does the Radix match in $$$ with others, whats the cheapest?? Sorry for some many ?'s but no better place to find out than with people who have em! :)

My brother is putting on a sts system on his 03 SSS soon..I cant give you any first hand experience. But, he already has a 3k stall so the lag wont really be an issue for him. If you are not going to run a stall or maybe even a TB stall, radix would would be a good one.

No such thing as FI that isn't harsh on the engine. It seems like you might be confusing turbo = supercharger?

Superchargers don't add mpg in my experience. My turbo did (~ 3mpg) before I went crazy.

Like everything else, S/C vs T/C is a set of trade offs. What trade off is for you is determined by what you want.

Radix is a strong, well designed, very complete kit with easy installation that will meet the needs of 95% of SSS owners. Its advantages are the completeness of the kit, the ease of installation (no welding required), the warranty, intercooled, and constant torque gains (boost is always on). It's draw back is that it is ultimately limited in how much power it can make, but that limit seems to be ~500 hp, which is plenty, and the need of a full exhaust system to gain maximum benefit.

STS is also a well designed kit with gobs of power and the kit is cheaper than the Radix, but once you add on the things you need to take advantage of the STS's strengths, the total money spent is about the same as with the Radix. STS advantages are: variable boost (with a $300 option), so you can have 'everyday' boost and 'race' boost, no parasitic drag on the motor (although the argument that increasing the pressure in the exhaust track also impacts engine has been made), the power limit on the kit exceeds the amount of power you can make on the motor (so essentially no limit), and the capability to grow as your needs and goals change, no exhaust needed. The cons are: tougher install that requires some welding / fabrication, the need to find your own parts (intercooler, injectors, etc., although STS offers most of them as options) and no boost until the turbo spools up (which if you follow STS's recommendations is 2400-3000rpm anyway).

What's best for you is really a decision for you to make. Both options will cost about $5k (before tranny mods to support either) when its all said and done. Both options are awesome and both will make you a happy driver.

Thanks alot Berserker  for educating me on the pros and cons of both kits. I think i may be leaning more to the Radix (unless it's cost lot more than STS) since it doesn't recquire as many things that need to be done and im probally just looking at a 500+hp. Hey would u be able to tell me how the warranty works on the Radix?? Thank you!

Pleasure.

I don't really know on the warranty -- I'd check with dcairns, benkey, blownchevy, moregrip, lee, nightshift, bigtex. All have / have had Radix kits on their trucks

If I remember right on the warranty, it states in small print that essentially if you upgraded further, ie headers, converter, etc.. that the warranty is void. Also void if you changed out pullies, which actually causes more wear and tear on the s-chgr anyway. dcairns and blownchevy would be more exact on that though.

Shaddap you!

Yeah...maybe he should have left Brent's and Jonathan's times for a placeholder, huh? :P

Erik, maybe you should get more guys from LS1tech to post their times here Track times It won't be too much different for a comparison.
