EASY LENS BLACK OUT

Recommended Posts

hey guys.....bowlegz and myself have been trying to find the best way to black out all the lenses on the truck. we originally got the blackout out covers for the headlights, but unfortunately, when you iinstall them, you cant see #### at night! so we opted for some piaa lights that were supposed to be 24x brighter than the factory lights....guess what.....still couldnt see #### at night. we also wanted to black out the tail lights, but the covers stick out past the body, and it looks like an autozone special kind of light! (no offense to the auto zone workers, i worked there once too) the third tail light on the top of the cab is a problemn also. we wanted to go with billet aluminum to cover it, but it doesnt look natural, and the ss emblem in it doesnt match the factory ss emblem. so heres the scoop. through mid america, i found a spray that basically tints your light housings. its a translucent black paint....the darker you want them, the more coats you apply. the best part is that this stuff is only like nine bucks a can, and when applied, it look factory. no more need for covers, and we can completely black out the third brake light. ill try and have some pics up in the next week so you can see how it looks. for all of you looking to get that look, you should seriously look into mid america. if ya have any questions, feel free to hit me up about it!

i used VHT nightshade that i bought on summitracing.com

it looks outstanding on the tailights and 3rd brake light, but looked like :puke: on the headlights.

it would turn purple with the headlights on and look ridicolous. i used lacquer to get it off and put the ventshades back on. iam looking for a 4 piece headlight kit now to replace the whole thing.

Yeah this process has been around longer than me (and I'm 27) ... good idea for a cheap mod just not the cleanest. I had mine tinted and baked and the tails look good ... haven't messed with the headlights though ...

Put up some pics !!

hey todd, i would agree 100% about the front lights. they didnt come out nearly as good as i wanted them to. i also agree with what you said about the back lights. they came out great. i did find that they were a little dull after they dried, so i sprayed them with a little clear coat and fixed that right up! as far as the front goes....i have found the headlights with the black inside housing, so when they are turned off, they look blacked out....and the corner lense is clear, but that company doesnt make the lower lights yet! YET being the main word there! they say that those lights are in the works. they look awesome.

p.s. im hoping to have the pics of the rear lights as soon as possible!!!!
