Tranny clunk

Recommended Posts

Hey guys i need your help, i did a search and could not find any info. When i let of the gas i feel a light clunk coming from the tranny and then again when i step back on the gas another clunk. Its hard to describe, but its like there is some slack in the system that is released and tightened with the gas pedal. I do know that it just started and i want to through the Radix on next weekend, but would like to have it covered by warranty if i could. Thanx

as a matter of fact i do, especially when going from reverse to Drive. Its not a smooth shift like it should be. Not only can you feel it but you can hear it as well. Not sure what it is?? Any suggestions?

yes it kinda jars into gear, and out. theres a lag in the system and when you step on the gas it takes a second and then you feel the tranny take the load and then it takes off like a bat out of hell, its not slipping, but its not as smooth as it should be or was. beats the hell out of me.

Matt, I'm not sure what vehicle you're driving (454SS?), but here's my experience w/ my '99 silverado LS 4x4 w/ autotrac. I had the same problem when taking my foot off the gas, and also back on (not causing a shift), and even sometimes braking. This issue was not shift-related.

It was the rear prop shaft sticking in the transfer case, so when there was any major change in shaft momentum, it would "slap" back and forth.

The dealer flushed the transfer case w/ a new teal colored fluid, then filled w/ same. Cured it. Evidently, it has some additional lubricant, and the shaft obvioiusly has to have some fore - aft play, but the issue is it was sticking, then releasing all at once.

Don't know for sure if this is your issue, but it sounds alot like mine, from your description. I haven't read of this happening w/ the new SSS though. good luck
