Just wondering when everyone switched over to synthetic. Or if your still runnin regular oil. I was thinking about changing the oil and was told that you should break in the engine with the natural stuff first and then switch. Thanks guys.......

I don't think there is a problem breaking in the engine on synthetic oil, it's just that it gets expensive if you are changing frequently during the break-in period. For example, some guys will change o+f at 1000, 3000, and 5000 miles until moving on to a regular every 3000 dino or every 5000 synthetic routine. With 2 or 3 short interval changes you may want to save your money and just use the regular oil.

I am not recommending changes more frequent than 3K miles, just noting that some guys are particularly picky with new engines. Personally I changed to Mobil 1 0w-40 at 2K miles when I installed the blower, will change again this weekend at just over 5K and will plan on doing so every 5K from now on.

If it makes any difference, I think Vettes come from the factory with synthetic oil. :chevy:

I switched to Mobil 1 at my first oil change...1000mi I think. When I told the service writer at my next oil change, he told me that was way too early to switch to synthetic. I was supposed to wait 5-10K miles, according to him. I quickly pointed out that thousands of Vettes are delivered every year with Mobil 1 in them from new. He had nothing to say after that...

after 500, change to dino, then syn @ 1500???

There is a nice decal and oil filler that are from the vette and say factory fill mobil 1.

Vette engines, I think, are pre-run since they are high performance and that way they are already broken in??? SO they get mobil 1 for showroom new.

The bottom line is, there is no straight answer on this question. If you ask an engine builder, at least the ones I have dealt with, they'll want you to go through at least one full cycle, first one with motor, with regular dino oil. After that, you can pretty much do whatever you want.
