Well guys, I'm a new SS owner and I drove it out to the El Mirage Dry Lakes Meet Sunday. This is where I compete for a Class Record in a 1929 Roadster with a 350 Chevy Motor on a 1.3 mile long track on the Dry Lakebed.

More Info at www.scta-bni.org

This engine isn't as "built" as last years, essentially a 2 Bolt 350 with some good "camel hump"Ported Heads, RV Cam (low end grunt) and everything we could salvage from last years motor(blown in the November Finals). We've run 151-152 MPH in May and June. Yesterday, we had a good track and the car hooked up to the dirt well, the winds were pushing me around a bit but I clocked a 157.057 MPH pass in the morning, not bad for advancing the timing to 38 degrees from 35. checked the plugs and carb jetting was right on. We had a second pass in the afternoon, and it was HOT, I mean 113 degrees HOT. The car hooked up well again and I was able to push it up to 158.034MPH, consistent. Somehow I ended up giving a parachute packing class between runs. There have been several 'chute incidents in May and June, and the inspectors were really tough this meet. The inspectors know I used to skydive, so they were sending the uneducated over to my pits for advice and direction on how to pack one properly. I must have packed 10 chutes, if they send them over in September I'm going to charge a rigging fee :D

Anyway, top speed of the meet was 277.092 by a Lakester, and the fastest bike was 186.218, gotta love those two wheelers, 186mph on dirt with crosswinds....

Thats the El Mirage report for you speed junkies out there

Here's my dirty truck, I faked the the pulling of the Car, (obviously) another guy on the team keeps it at his place where he has a lot more room than me.

I was hoping you would be towing the red roadster with the red SS, they are made for each other :D .

So how did you like driving the SS on the open road? I would imagine the Grapevine Pass didn't slow you down any :D I know that I enjoy driving my SS on the highway and mountain roads, on the way to points unknown, in search of adventure...

So were you tempted to make a run in the SS, just to see what it would do? Oh, wait, I forgot, your still breaking it in and need to get rid of the speed limiter :D

There used to be a under 125MPH class you could run without a roll cage fire extinguishers etc... but a guy almost killed himself June of last year when he rolled his 1949 sedan. The class was suspended. Insurance concerns. Now, Roll cages, fire systems, Door nets, Racing seats are mandatory for all entries.

Well, I guess it makes more sense to keep people from running their cars somewhere legal and force them back on the streets where they can hurt more than themselves :wtf: . Seems like drag racing has come full circle on this. Now cities are trying to get the kids to the drag strip and off the street.

I wouldn't mind finding out what my SS's top speed is, but finding a safe place would be hard, and if caught, the speeding ticket would be a killer
