Hunter Lee
It looks like there are pre-drilled holes under the hood for a bug shield. Anyone confirm this? Does the regular '03' silverado have the same hood as the SS? Just so i know what im lookin for when i go get the shield. 2 nicks in the hood already! I know it's a truck and going to happen, but a bug shield would have saved both. Also, when painting the back side of the bug shield, does it have to be scuffed up a little for the paint to take? Any info would be great. Thanks
BenKey
Hunter Lee - Lund makes plastic inserts for the holes in the hood, if that is who you go with. Dupli-color makes an adhesion promoter that goes on before the paint for when you paint plastic stuff. You need to lightly sand down the surface also. You would scuff, adhesion promoter, then paint. Good luck!
Hunter Lee
BenKey, how about a clear coat? Not needed? TY for the info can't decide on EGR or LUND. the EGR looks more aerodynamic....

If you're painting the outside I would, but since you're only doing the inside, I wouldn't worry about it. I guess it wouldn't hurt to do if you really wanted though. blackhawk
I purchased a bug shield from the Chevy parts department. I can’t remember what brand it is because I pulled off the sticker. They bolt right on to the hood and have the inserts included. The shield I purchased is a dark smoke so with the black paint you can barely even see that it is there, because it is formed just like the hood of the truck. Hunter Lee: The bug shield that i installed is made by EGR, (MID-PROFILE AEROWRAP WRAPAROUND DEFLECTOR) it is shaped exactly like the hood. I payed $56 for it because i got it from the local chevy parts department. EGR Bug Shield. BTW: The hood on the SS is the same as the regular silverado...
