misterp
After this weekend I'm really thinking of getting a 2" drop for my SS, probably the BellTech kit, but wanted to hear from others if doing so slowed you down in the 1/4-mile? What about pinion angles, etc and are good performance shocks available for those kinds of drop kits? Bottom-line is I don't want to put one in if it will slow me down any in the quarter... Mr. P. Mr. P. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I honestly don't think it would have an adverse effect on your times if you corrected the pinon angle w/ shims. If anything I think it'd help... lower to the ground = less air passing under the truck = less lift = truck is planted better and applying the power to the pavement... at least thats my wierd unfounded theory. Lower center of gravity=better weight transfer. I know, AWD doesn't have traction issues, but it should help you plant and go. You probably wont need to worry about pinion angles too much with just a 2" drop. It should still be within spec, I would think.
misterp
Yeah I know aero wise that it would really help at the big-end... wonder how much, for example what is top speed w/ lift vs top speed w/o lift. But wanted to be sure of the effect on suspension, say with 550 ft-lbs + 2" drop will your 60-ft times suffer... Mr. P.

Mr. P. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm guessing your going to be using shackels to get 2" out of the rear? If so this is that same way I had lowered my SS I used a 4* shim to eliminate the vibration. cadowns
Jonmalibuss Could you outline how to install the Shims? I also am using the Belltech shackels for a drop in the rear, (Less than 2"). I have the vibration as well, only @ 45mph. It is not a big problem, but would like to remove it if I am able to do the work myself. Thanks CD

Thanks CD <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You want to install the shims so that the pinion angle rotates up not down because when you installed the shackels it rotated the pinion down. They should come with new longer bolts or nuts to replace the center bolt in the leaf springs. You will need c-clams or vise grip style clamps large enough to hold the spring pack together infront and behind the center bolt then remove the center bolt and replace with the new bolt. Then just reverse the process you used to take it apart to the spring and install the shim between the leaf and the mounting surface on the rearend. Hope this helps good luck
2bseen
I wouldn't thing it would slow down your 1/4 times at all. My is lowered but wasn't as fast b/f I lowered it.
misterp
Thanks, I see a drop kit in the SS's future
