air force vm
How much power is lost from the flywheel to the rear wheels on a RWD SS? I placed a flowmaster and K&N cold air intake on the truck and was going to see how much power I should have at the rears before I dyno it. What do you guys have and what are your numbers? XGMTech
Isn't the rule of thumb 20%? (if anyone knows a more accurate number please chime in).
BenKey
20% is the rough number. It will be different for a 2WD. Should be able to see how much loss there is after the dyno.
air force vm
Cool, I should be going to the Dyno in the next few weeks then. Sounds like a good % loss.
billsmith
Yea, 20% to 25% is what I have always heard. And that all depends on how efficient the drivetrain is. I believe a automatic trans looses more power due to the torque converter. A lock up converter helps.
zippy
if you run it with the 20's i would say 20-22%. the 04' VHO would be the lowest since it was 2wd and only had the 8.6" rear diff and would probably be closer to 19% or so. switching to a one piece aluminum driveshaft might even get an 04' model to around 18%. when we dyno'd an awd SSS with the converter locked it was putting down 77.97% of it's factory rated power. the only mod to it at this point to affect power output would have been the torque converter which was probably a couple of pounds lighter than stock, but not much. i would say a completely stock AWD would be about 22-24% powertrain drag.
