sierrac3
The last couple of days the Gear Position Display on my gauge cluster has been acting up. Sometime when I move the shift lever from park to another position, the selector in the display sometimes does not move, or it disappears or its slow to move to the correct position. Then after I have been driving for a while, when put it into park, the selector does not light up the "P" and the automatic door locks do not unlock. Its not the cluster because I have swapped them out with another one and it still does the same thing. I was wondering if its the Park- Neutral switch in the steering column or the Gear Position sensor thats mount where the shift lever goes into the transmission. Anyways any suggestions or pointer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ian
mcwarren
Ian, best course of action here to correct the problem without guessing would be to scan for DTC and diag per the GM service manual/service information.
TurbochargedBerserker
This may be a problem with the neutral safetey switch. The gear position display is 100% PCM generated from the NSS (which is mounted on the side of the transmission) and is not directly connected to the gear selector. The switch is about $50-60 as I recall, but I'd suggest having the dealer or a tranny shop install it. They have to go on just right or they will bend and you need a new switch.
