Blown 346
Theres nothing wrong with using sea foam in the brake booster line to remove carbon deposits from the upper half the motor. I have used it dozens of times, atleast every other oil change and have visual improvements everytime. The idea behind this is just like how you mentioned its like steam cleaning. The sea foam goes in as a liquid while the engine is running. The heat from the motor turns that insto steam and lets those particles sit on the intake and combustion chambers. You shut the engine off for 5 minutes to let the sea foam settle and loosen up carbon particles. Re start and those particles burn off. I will dig up some photos when I was experimenting with how the pistons looked before treatment and after if you like.

Blown 346
I dig up my pics from inside the cylinders of before and after. Ive always been too nervous to use it in my oil though. I just think of the detergents in the products and how they could affect the bearings, and the oils lubricating properties.

D1SCSS
I've used a quart of ATF in the oil for 20 minutes then change the oil to get rid of sludge in the crankcase. Works pretty good....
NipRing
I've used a quart of ATF in the oil for 20 minutes then change the oil to get rid of sludge in the crankcase. Works pretty good.... Did you take a quart out first or just add it in and idle for 20 min?

Blown 346
Basically hes saying not to use sea foam as it didnt smoke the most. That has to be the most inconclusive test I have seen in my life. He doesnt tell you that the Berrymans kit he has cost $100 either as compared to the $8 for sea foam. je3082
My truck was doing the same thing.I've found the best thing to do is remove the throttle body a give it a good cleaning with throttle body cleaner and a tooth brush.
