gunslinger2803
I'm planning on buying an extra pcm to send in for my tune so i can keep the stock one in case of any problems. My question is: do i need a stock 6.0L pcm from another SSS or will the 5.3L pcm from a reg silverado work? i assume that i need the 6L one, but thought i'd make sure. also, any ideas on where to find one? wanted to see if there were any easy fixes instead of hunting through the local salvage yards. looked on ebay w/o much luck. brobradh77
You can always use pcm4less and they will send you a pcm and you can return your current one and he will refund you the core charge or just keep it and he will replace the one he sent you with the core charge thats what I am about to do is just keep my stock one for just in case. PladdPezzPunk
either of those pcm's will work fine. the only difference is in the operating system which is the same on some but either way with a complete reflash, it will be made what you want. good luck man. The PCM hardware is the same between the 2 trucks ... it's just the firmware that makes them run the different size engines. NOTE: If you do the programming yourself, be sure to re-write the VIN from the 5.3L PCM to match the 6.0L VIN before you install it in the truck. curly
Is the PCM out of a 2005 the same as a 2006? I have a custom tune (on a PCM which I bought) on my 2005 2500HD (which I may trade in on a 2006 SS) and will remove the PCM from my 2500 to use on the 2006 if I get it. Will it work (with a re-program of course)? Edited December 21, 2006 by curly (see edit history)

The main change, that I know of is implementing CAN (GMLAN) into the 2006 model year instead of ClassII from 2005. (CAN/GMLAN and ClassII are network protocols) There is a difference in hardware as well as firmware. (CAN/GMLAN requires it's own processor) If I should be mistaken ... someone feel free to call me out on it ...
