Dry ice with intercooler???

how do you think it would work? i know it could freeze the water and im sure the pump wouldnt like that. im almost finished installign my ice box for my intercooler and im thinking since dry ice is like -113f it would cool alot better than ice. i know a local supermarket that sells it so it isnt hard to get. just wanting some idea/feedback or anyone that may have had some experience doing this.

I have played with dry ice alot and your not going to freeze the water in your box. The one thing you do have to worry about is building up pressure and exploding the ice box. These links will give you the idea BOOM! You will have to have it vented and then you will have the dry ice "smoke" leaking out and possibly not letting you run your truck down the track. Dry ice really doesn't last that long before it melts either. :nonod:

I've never seen anyone use it with a FI application, but my buddy has used it in his cold can on his 68 Mustang. His fuel line flows through what is basically a coffe can under the hood filled with ice. This is supposed to cool the fuel and give out about as much hp as our throttle body bypass.

 

Maybe look into an intercooler sprayer. I know the STi has one and I'm pretty sure it works well in hotter climates (like CA). I think its only a windshield washer sprayer that sprays water on the cooler.

That brings back memories of when we used to do that at the grocery store I used to work at in highschool till the cops came and shut us down. :devil:

well i already have a nitrous purge bar on my intercooler but it doesent help much being air to water. i do have a pressure valve on the ice box , it sits under the hood where the intake filter was. i guess only way to know is to try it :devil:

i was toying with the idea of using the factory air conditioning with a seperate evap core to do a similar task. dry ice should work great but you would have to keep it in stock. not everyday performance. also, if you set up dual intercoolers, you can encase one in lexan and purge nitrous through to cool down before you run.

There are ice chest like products that you put in the bed of the truck, and run the intercooler fluid through the ice in them to cool things down more than a heat exchanger can. Look at products made for the Lightning.

those are pretty crazy , i dont think im ready to get that crazy with it though, from what i have learned dry ice isnt the best idea being an alkaline and it doesent play well with aluminum. so im going to stick with alot of ice and a wee bit of coolant and water wetter.
