TAR 71
This morning at 3:30 a.m. on my way home from work I decided to play with the SS a little. I romped on it from about 15 mph and held it until right at 100 mph before I let off, from about 80 to 90 mph I got some vibrations that felt to be coming from the drivetrain. It seemed to be coming from the front, but I know that vibrations can transmit throughout the vehicle. It stopped after 90 mph, it is smooth as silk at all other speeds. The SS only has 28000 miles. Does this sound like the front differential or has anyone had this happen? Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. 04CHASE
did you lower it at all?
montanass
My guess would be tires... it is very unlikely that they are perfectly balanced and at that speed is where the vibration is most apparent. If your front tires are cupped due to lack of rotation this will make the shaking more severe. It is a truck, with AWD... not really designed for speed... Not going fast but getting there quick... TAR 71
The truck hasn't been lowered, yet. The tires are brand new, less than 1000 miles. This was the first time I ran it that fast, and I must say that I was somewhat suprised when it happened. I'll take it tomorrow and get the tires rebalanced. If that doesn't help it, I'll take to GM and let them deal with it. It didn't feel like tire shake, but . It wasn't sustained speed, I ran it up to 100 mph and let off and slowed back to normal speed. edessa
GM wont help you. They wont brake any speed limit laws to duplicate the problem, so they will say that there is no problem.
tawss04
mine does it to, I just deal with it, I dont do 80 that often.
TAR 71
mine does it to, I just deal with it, I dont do 80 that often. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I assume that this could just be the nature of the beast? I don't go that fast often either, I guess I'm just nervous about something going wrong with the front end. I went and had the tires rebalanced and they were fine. It goes in next week to have the dual climate control replaced, I'll have them see if they find anything else wrong while it's there. NashSS
Mine vibrates at a high speed to so but i dont go that fast anyways just when im mad or feel like drawing xtra attention to myself but the truck does alot of it on its own

"at high speeds"? you gunna take it down to the dealer? Alan
Black2003SS
Mine does it too on acceleration above 90mph. It sounds liek the whoel drivetrain is going to fly apart. I thought it was the tranny or front diff myself. The truck even feels like it is struggling at that speed even though it continues on to 120+mph in a very timely fashion. But it does feel like somethign isnt right, like something is out of balance somewhere, something other than the tires ebcause my tires were new as well. "at high speeds"? you gunna take it down to the dealer? Alan <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'll probably tell them it's at interstate cruising speeds and hopefully they'll find it. I've been a service writer at a couple dealerships when I was younger, if the tech's at this dealer are like some the of ones I worked around, they'll find the vibration. I've seen vehicles like this get put through it's paces on a few occasions by the tech supposedly trying to find a problem. Not that I want someone to take my truck out and abuse it, but if that's what it takes to find the problem (if there is one) and hopefully get it fixed, so be it. Not that all tech's do this, I don't mean any offense to anyone, I'm just telling my experiences. Mine does it too on acceleration above 90mph. As everyone knows, these trucks aren't cheap and I've spent way too much money on this thing to be driving it around with possibly something wrong with it (if that makes any sense). I need to know, my warranty is up in Mar 07 if I don't buy an extended warranty. Thanks everyone for the replies. Tim
KJT13
i've noticed the same thing since day one of owning it. mine came with 22s so i chalked it up as a balancing issue.
desrtrat
i would rotate the tires and see if it goes away. if it does, have them rebalanced. i rebalance mine every 6k and rotate them. have you ever removed your frount drive shaft? when the dealer replaced my frount diff. there was a vibration in the frount at speed, and they took the shaft and rotated it 180* and reinstalled it and it went away if there was no problems with it before the tire replacement, and balancing has not changed it then you may just have a bad tire. i still have stock tires on mine, and i run 75-80 all the time and it's smooth good luck
