Tranny held 1st gear too long

Recommended Posts

My tranny has acked a little wierd since I first took delivery. I would get a double bump from 2nd-1st almost like it wasnt sure if it wanted to shift. Recently I was really cruising for about 10 min I mean really **** footing it. I wanted to lane change and barely gave it any throttle and it held 1st till like 3k give or take. What do you think? I want to take it to the dealer but I'm sure they will say there favorite saying "We could not get the truck to duplicate your problem". So my question is What exactly can I say to get them to check for the problem mechanicly. Instead of them just test driving it and saying its ok!!!! Should I tell them to check Log's for line pressure and throttle position, air pressure test, line pressure test, shift point test. What's the magic words here because I can never get the dealer to fix the issue's without bringing it back multiple times.

Check my post in this thread referencing TAP cells, and ask your service writer to have a technician check the 1-2 TAP cells 4 through 16, and ask him to log those numbers to show them to you. Positive numbers indicate more line pressure being applied by the PCM during the shift event, which could indicate mechanical problems with the transmission. The TAP cells have a range of 4 through 16 to indicate throttle condition when the shift occurs. 4 is light throttle and 16 is heavy throttle.

EX. when the service writer brings the data to you, if you see that 1-2 TAP Cell 5 has a 0.5 value, but 1-2 TAP Cell 15 has 9.548 value, this tells you that the PCM is adding 9.548 psig of line pressure during the 1-2 shift only at heavy throttle to prevent slippage.

mine was doing the same thing, held 1-2 shift at lite throttle to 5000before shifting. found a bad selinoide(sp) in the tranny, and they just replaced the hole valve body under warrenty...

good luck

:seeya:

hhmmmm.........new valve body huh

just drive the shit out of it until it breaks or does it everytime, then take it to the dealer.

Man I couldnt bring my self to do that... :driving:

I was experiencing the same thing... the dealer told me it might have to do with the parameters set whithin the first 15-30 miles of a reset. He told me to unhook negative battery cable to reset and then drive how I normaly do within the next 15-30. The next time i did this was when i installed my zippy tune which definitely solved the prob. Maybe try that first.... Then I'm with Chase!!!
