r8rs4lf
It finally started. After many months of planning, going to the Architect, talking to many Contractors, etc., we've finally broke ground. We're adding 1200 sq. ft. of living space and a 450 sq. ft. garage. Day it started, Feb. 5th. Demo and trenching started. Back part of garage blown out for a drive through to a new 2 car garage in back. Forms started. Yesterday (Day 11 of the addition) the rough plumbing was finished. Today the crew comes back to finish the rebar. An inspection will follow next week and after that the cement will be poured. The garage. It really seems like these guys are pumping. This is only my first addition, but that seems like alot done in 11 days IMHO. I don't have any complaints. r8rs4lf
Hope everything works out for you Alex.... .Your house looks familar, did you have your house sandblasted before stuco? Yes we did back in the day. PEX is way cheaper than copper for plumbing...sorry its too late for that advise What is PEX? As for copper, as you can see, there is really nothing as far as plumbing goes for the addition so I highly doubt it was expensive at all. Our whole house was already done in copper when it was remodeled back in the day. We've never had any problems with water pressure.

If there isn't much to be done as far as plumbing, DO NOT go with pex. It is more prone to leaking in the future.

If there isn't much to be done as far as plumbing, DO NOT go with pex. It is more prone to leaking in the future. PEX is Poly-Ethylene Cross (x) tubing. Leaves no odor, no taste, no corrosion in the lines. With PEX you can go up to 1000 feet away with no joints, except at the termination fittings. There are a few different types (Wirsbo being the most common around here), but there are several others. As for future leaks, I'd tend to disagree. Nice thing about Pex up here is if there is a line that freezes, it will expand a few times. With copper, it will break. I know far too well. (not that freezing is a concern of yours in Cali.) Pex, as others have stated, can also be installed with a manifold, so as to equalize the pressure to all lines. Copper, it could be done, but it would be extremely labor intensive. Pex is also quite a bit quieter, as the poly acts as an insulator too. Not saying that all copper homes are loud, by any means. But I have seen a few that were plumbed incorrectly, and everytime the toilet flushed, it sounded like an airplane was landing in the living room. montanass
I like the first pic where everyone is just standing around... then in the following pic there is a foosball table On the other hand, it looks/sounds like it will be a nice addition to your home. Now the question is: What are you plans with the garage? Anything really cool?
r8rs4lf
Do you remember the name of the sandblasting company? Or did your stucco guy sub them out. Naw, don't remember. We had a contractor named Bob that did everything to our home back in the day. He's done alot of work in the Carson area. Hope everything works out for you Alex.... .Your house looks familar, did you have your house sandblasted before stuco? Yes we did back in the day. But I have seen a few that were plumbed incorrectly, and everytime the toilet flushed, it sounded like an airplane was landing in the living room. All of that is really not needed as you can see. There isn't really that much more plumbing being added to our home as it stands. I think the Architect did a good job of keeping it in certain places. PEX must be something widely used in colder climates because we use copper. When people think of upgrading their homes plumbing, it's copper here. I like the first pic where everyone is just standing around... then in the following pic there is a foosball table On the other hand, it looks/sounds like it will be a nice addition to your home. Now the question is: What are you plans with the garage? Anything really cool? I ended up giving that foosball table to the workers along with a BBQ. As for the garage, it will house my 1966 El Camino, I plan on building my own bench, plumbing compressor lines all around the garage, there is already going to be a 200amp sub panel in there, 220 for the compressor, the compressor will be outside the rear of the garage and basically whatever I can think up. I did plan on installing a hydraulic two post lift in there and I still might, but not right now.
r8rs4lf
Haven't really kept up with this, but here is an update. Day 40 Garage was started today. All I could fit in the lense. Shot of the family and dining room along with the kitchen. Vaulted ceilings. I believe they are waiting on the plumber, electrician, and the heat/AC guys. Site boss told me the garage would be framed up by the end of today.
