misterp
I also have switched over to DSLR with my Nikon D40. ...That's a good camera; my "adopted folks" are professional sports photographers, they have several Nikon D2X's and D1X's (backup cameras) and I've used them, they are BADASS; it is almost impossible to take a bad picture with a D1X - I want to get one off eBay for myself. I'm going to talk to them, maybe I can bring one of the D1X's with me to the Lebanon Valley meet this next week. Mr. P. Tell you this, when they bought the D2X's our server storage requirements went up 6-fold!!! (12mp camera!) Edited September 14, 2007 by Mr. P. Dylan06SS
Main camera - Nikon D70 digital SLR w/ 18-200mm VR nikkor lense Backup camera - Nikon S50, great little point and shoot camera for the money. Heres some of my favorites I've done with the D70 (Resized obviously. Natively I think they're over 3000pixels wide) These are all shot in manual (except the dolphin pic) and if you're going to invest in an SLR then you need to do some reading and learn how to shoot in manual... truely the only way an SLR should be used. BOB47
I just got a Panasonic with the Lumix lense, 7.2 megapixel, 250$. I think it is the best camera for the money? You should be happy with that. Good camera with a good lens for the money. Almost any camera on the market is going to take acceptable pictures. Cameras have come a long way in the past few years. They can give you the correct exposure in situations that would have been impossible for any automatic camera 10 years ago. A crappy pic is a crappy pic no matter how sharp it is. On the other hand, it's impossible to take a GREAT shot with a below average lens. Remember--a camera can only TAKE a picture. Photographers MAKE pictures. misterp
I talked to my "adopted folks" today; they said that if they had it to do over again they would have bought a Nikon D40 instead of the Nikon D2, as these are close in functionality but the D40 is drastically less (they paid $5600 for their D2X). So there you go, a recommendation from a professional FWIW... Mr. P.
