misterp
OK so I worked on my old Firebird this weekend, and the car has both the fuel system and oil system plumbed with Earl's aluminum AN flare fittings. The car has been sitting for 10 years, and I am finding that ALL of the AN fittings are leaking (loose) so my theory is that the repeated seasonal cooling/heating has somehow loosened the aluminum fittings to the point of leaking. Anyone else seen anything like this? I fired the car up and had a half-quart of engine oil & gallon of gasoline raining down all over my garage floor Mr. P. CoolBlueSS
Never experienced that, but it makes sense with the expantion/contraction rate of aluminum.
Jonmalibuss
Do they seal once tightened back up? We have discovered here at work that if you tighten AN fittings down too much you can easily damage the sealing surfaces causing a leak which is not correctable. We have also found from time to time mismachined or damaged fittings straight from either earls and or XRP.
